Terrariums

It's called a terrarium and is a small ecosystem inside a glass enclosure. I googled it and there's instructions on how to go about making your own!!! I'm definitely doing this as I have one of those small glass bowls in my room which I was looking to find a use for.

That is pretty cool. I have mostly just heard the word terrarium in the context of where you keep your snake or turtle or iguana or lizard or other reptiles/amphibians.

I'd join in the fun with you, but the dead husk of my attempt at bonsai is a reminder that me + taking care of plants = fail. I don't do that good of a job watering the plants in our yard when my dad is away. I spend most of that time chasing the dog with the hose until he figures out how to slip past me and get inside to safety...

I remember making these in elementary school. I think we used huge spaghetti jars. I wasn't very good at keeping my plant alive =\

Ohh I'm so excited to have a terrarium buddy! I'll take progress photos - do the same!!

I'm not sure what I'll be growing yet, but I will be visiting a nursery and pet store soon to get supplies.

From reading the articles, they said choose plants that stay small.

I think the amazing thing is that it's a self-sustaining ecosystem; It waters itself!

Ooh... maybe my son will want to do this with me! When going to the pet supply shop, check out plants they have! When we had our little geckos that inadvertantly got smuggled here into CA on our return trip from Hawaii back in 2000 - there were all kinds of dry/wet type plants that are perfect for any kind of terrarium you can imagine!
