Studio Ghibli

Sun Jan 14, 2007 2:37 am

I looked around for a topic... didn't find one.
So yes... Lately I've became obsessed with it.

Howl's Moving Castle is my favorite. Closely followed by Spirited away and My Neighbour Totoro.

Studio Ghibli. Dicuss. xD

I liked Laputa the best I think. I haven't seen any in a while, so I'm not quite sure.
I watched Howl's Moving Castle in Japanese, (the team of voice acters actually came to our village!) but then I didn't understand Japanese very well and couldn't enjoy it fully. I liked the original book much better.

Well, I guess you could say I liked the few I've actually seen.

Well I think that The Cats Return is my favourite followed by Spirited Away - I've seen Howl's Moving Castle but I didn't like it very much... which may or may not be to do with the fact that my brother interrupted the ending so I didn't get to see it properly and haven't rewatched since as I've been busy. I'd probably like it if I managed to see it all of the way through. :P

I got Laputa Castle in the Sky and Princess Monoke (sp?) for Christmas on DVD but recently there has been constent bad weather whenever I've had time to sit down and watch a movie (electricity going off, ect.) so I'm still waiting for it not to be like that. -prods sky-

I will always love My Neighbor Totoro. Forever. The end. :)

I did see you around and kind of guessed that this was so. Totoro's amazing. I love it when he's really happy about the umbrella keeping him dry. It's a pet. It makes me happy.

Yes... The end of Howl's Moving Castle's the best bit.
It's not the same in Japanese as it is english. It's harder to understand in Japanese I think. It's one of the only ones where I've found that that's true.
Probably because the book was by some random welsh writer...

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind was pretty good. I also liked Laputa.
Spirited Away was my first anime movie, so I can't turn that down. I really liked it.

Those are the only Studio Ghibli movies I've seen. D: I SUCK.

Haha, that's my favorite part! Which is why I requested it to be my av :)

It's really cute. He's all O.O Dry?!?! I giggle every time.

DM: I haven't seen Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind yet. I'm kind of still building up my collection...

I got the DVD from the library and was only able to see twenty minutes because someone borked the DVD. Then I saw the rest on TCM.
I loved Ted Turner when they were airing all of the movies. They were even airing the subbed versions. :)

I saw the movies when TCM aired them too, except they didn't air Spirited Away in Canada. :(
I loved all of them, but my favourites were Whisper of the Heart and Porco Rosso.

I have to say that Ghibli has made some amazing movies, and my absolute favourites are (in random order) Kiki's Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies and Totoro.

I think I've seen the most of Ghibli's movies, except Ocean Waves and the newest creation, Tales from Earthsea. If you haven't seen Kiki's Delivery Service, do it immediately. It's the ultimate feel-good anime movie ever made. And the direct opposite of that, Grave of the Fireflies, is also a must see.

</overzealous advice>

Yay Studio Ghibili! <3

My favorites were probably Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away

I was able to see a part of [but not all of :(] Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, and My Neighbor Totoro....which was spiffy ^^

My least favorite was probably Howl's Moving Castle though...most likely because I was an avid fan of the book...and the movie was just .. Ack! :P [and yes...I know that movies will most likely never be like the books and so on...but it was really an extreme change oO]

Munduses, Grave of the Fireflies is not by Studio Ghibli =)
My favourite ones are Spirited Away, Mononoke Hime and Totoro.
I wish I had a Totoro in my garden too ;_;

I saw Howl's Moving Castle this weekend... I love it! I prefer it to Spirited Away, Princess Monoke and Kiki's Delivery Service, I think (which are the others I've seen). Calcifer and the Scarecrow are so cute, and Howl is funny. It probably helps that I haven't read the book, though ;)

Hmm, I think I need to watch My Neighbour Totoro!

Sun Mar 11, 2007 5:31 pm

Since my last post, I've watched Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro and Laputa: Castle in the Sky - yay Channel Four deciding to show them at a time where I can just manage to drag myself out of bed. British Channel Four, naturally.

Anyway, I am so happy I finally managed to see Laputa: Castle in the Sky! =D I missed half of it but I watched my DVD after it finished so I thankfully managed to see everything I missed, yay. I really liked it - despite have a rather, well, dislike for Guilver's Travels... which it is supposed to be based on. I'm such a rebel, I'm not good when it comes to classics. :P

Kiki's Delivery Service was very good as well, even though when I read a summary of it I didn't really think that I would like it very much. Glad I was wrong though. ^^ Also really liked My Neighbour Totoro - I was convinced that there was going to be a heartbreaking ending... just because I'm an eternal pessimist. I really liked being wrong in that case. XD Yes, they all get a big tick and therefore a recommendation from me. Yay. ^^
