The Artemis Fowl series will always be my favorite series.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite in that series...

As others have mentioned, Hitch Hiker's Guide Trilogy by Douglas Adams, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Anne Rice's vampire books.

I've also always loved animal books, particularly Watership Down when I was younger. I refused to read anything that didn't have animals! My all-time favourite is Duncton Wood (and the Duncton Chronicles) by William Horwood - an amazing series of books starring moles!

The Amulet of Samarkand - by Jonathan Stroud

Pure genius, Stroud is.

I absolutely love her books as well. Especially the Tortall ones. There was a sale at the bookstore in my town a few weeks back and I went and got every one. Except Song of the Lioness which I've had for years and read 11 times. I have to say the Trickster two are my favorite of all of her's though.

I can't wait till October when her next book comes out.

I didn't like that one, I actually stopped halfway through(which I think I've only done with three books in my entire life). I loved some of her other books though, especially Keeping the Moon and The Truth About Forever


Can't say I'm too enthusiatic about Harry Potter though. The first three were really good, and the fourth was ok, but I didn't really like the 5th and 6th.

But at the moment my favourite author is Matthew Reilly
He is an aussie author he has written great books such as
Contest, Ice Station, Temple, Area 7, Scarecrow, Hover Car Racer (though it was as good as the others) and Seven Ancient Wonders (Seven Deadly Wonders in the US)

Don't want to offend you, but his books seem a bit too darkly humorous... it never seems like it would turn out better, and I got really infuriated at Bartimaeus, but, eh. Anyways...

If anyone has read anything, ANYTHING of R.A. Salvatore's, he is one of the greatest fantasy authors EVER. He describes his fight scenes so fluently, portrays good emotion, and he even attacks issues like racism in the real world with his drow character Drizzt. In my opinion, he ranks up there with Tolkien.

Next, if anyone has read Ed Greenwood's books, they are pure genius. At the end of one of his books, I was almost at tears - he is amazing at building up emotion slowly and smashing it all down in one moment with all but a few words. It was like a spiritual thing... his books are SOOO good.

Then, Garth Nix. He's pretty good at slowly building up tension and crashing it down with one really amazing ending. M'kay, that's my favorite books of all time.

Oy, I love Salvatore, but you're only tarnishing his work by saying he tackles Real Life Issues. I mean, he unquestionably does, but in fantasy, it's more an extra hurdle in a gymnast tournament than something that deserves praise in and of itself. Luckily, Salvatore jumps that hurdle with grace.

Same goes for FF6 - it has suicide, a suicide attempt, and teen pregnancy, but that's not a strength - the strength is that it fits in well with the environment and the story.

I hate Harry Potter books but I love the movies, but everyone has likes and dislikes.I have like 12 favourite books and soon to be 13 once it comes out in october

i never really liked unfortunate events, just so miserable. lately i've found myself getting alot more picky with what i read, and what i like. more people i know seem to like it than dislike it though.

White Oleander is probably my favorite. I also liked:

I still occasionally read teen/young-adult books too. I've read all of the books in the Princess Diaries series, and I still love them. I like the Georgia Nicolson books (Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging, etc.) and books by Sarah Dessen.

Of course I love the classics and ones a lot of others love (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia) but I'm also a huge science fiction buff, especially with media tie-in novels. I'm a sucker for just about any Star Wars or Star Trek book out there, and let me tell you, some of those are even better than the classics, in my opinion. But that's just me.
