I've read it during my sophomore year.

I didn't like the book, although it's pretty easy to read and it does take a bit of brain power to get all the symbols. You ALWAYS need ice cream for English. ALWAYS.

It goes by pretty quickly for a science fiction book. The movie could prove to be a harder task to get through than the novel, even though it stars 60s dreamboat Oskar Werner. Pay attention to color imagery, most classes look too long at that.

Basically every object in the book is a symbol. Everyone's name is a symbol, the chapters' names are symbols, everything related to fire is a symbol, and the whole thing is secretly about television and not government oppression(but that won't work well in your class, so pretend it's about oppression).
The book itself isn't hard to read, though. It was on my sophomore reading list, and I could handle it alone then.

I read this in 8th grade...and one of my friends who is going to a private school next year had to read this for his summer reading (needless to say, I don't think he will read it again). Well, it certainly was thought-provoking, and I didn't need any ice cream--or anything else, for that matter--to understand it.
