*amazed*

12 hours and so many replies. I'm bewildered! :o

The ending is sad, predicatable as it is. My brother, I think, never will read that trilogy considering the way I was acting over it during it and afterwards. (I read it in 3 days and moped about for another 3, driving him mad. :P)

It made me feel as sad as when watching the ending of FFX but that's rather different.

I think Lyra's mother ought to have had another ending. Character change was a wee bit too quick from wicked woman to loving mother in my opinion.

Mmm... I started to read the first a little while ago, and I never finished it. It was good, though, and to be honest, I think I should start reading it again.

Ooh, I love Dark Materials. On my list of favorite series, and really very inspiring for me as a writer.

The concept of the books is what really makes me love them. So many very original ideas, all packaged together in a way that really works and helps you suspend disbelief. I love the way there are subtle differences between the two words, like the differences in vocabulary.

The writing and details are also extraordinary, and I love Will and Lyra's characters (as well as all the rest of them). Seriously, all the supporting cast is awesome. Even Lyra's parents are pretty awesome semi-bad guys. I agree the mother's change is a little sudden, but even then, I could almost suspend disbelief.

I haven't read them in a long time... I think I know what you mean about the ending, but I still liked it. Overall, the books are fabulous.

I just have my fingers crossed that there will Not be a movie.

Movies have that terrible habit of being carp. (Carp).

I've known about the movie for ages :P

I saw a bit from the stage show, and I didn't like the casting for Lyra at all, it just seemed wrong. In the audio versions the girl who plays Lyra's voice seems wrong too. Harumph.

Unfortunately I saw in news not long ago that New Line Cinemas are planning on doing a movie on His Dark Materials. :P

The first book can be a bit confusing at times because of the vocabulary differences, objects being called something different, and whatnot. It's when Lyra gets with Will, and they begin comparing the worlds, that things start to become really clear.

::sighs:: See, when movies like that are talked about, I like to pretend I didn't hear.

I may watch it, but only after someone else I trust has watched it and tells me how it is. =P

I've only read the first part (The Golden Compass and Het Noorderlicht, so the American and the Dutch versions :P), and I can't find the next two parts anywhere  I hate it when books end like that, especially when I can't read the next parts ><
