Thestral Sketch

Thu Dec 16, 2004 6:47 am

I promised someone on PPT a thestral long ago, and it never worked out in my head. So I finally pulled out a horse anatomy book, and my Harry potter book... and came up with this.

bleh. Anyways, i'm more fond of the head, then of anything, (I have a thing for drawing horses with open mouths). Legs suck. Bony critters suck, and generally. I don't know what to think. Hooves suck. Thank god these are only sketches.

By tommorow i'll be hating these... quite frankly, i'm hating them now!

(stay tuned folks for uploads of Inruns super duper secret project... to appear sometime in the next year. Mwahahahahaha)

They're about exactly how I pictured them, actually, adding the freaky-deaky sputter that makes the horses of the Nazgul chill your blood.

However, neither your picture nor my mental image looks like something two people could ride. (Until, that is, they're actually ridden.)

I think it looks very good. The only thing I see thats a little odd is the wings seem like they are in the wrong place. Other than that I think it looks great . Definately looks like it could be a Thestral from the book.

My reasoning for placing the wings there, is that because they are a skeletal horse, it would need some serious support. Not to mention the JK Rowling says they're on the withers, WHICH is right there on a horse.

*shrug* Just a sketch, I kinda like playing with the idea.
It'll be interesting to see when the movie comes out, if they deal with the Thestrals... and if they do, how they make them.

I really like the way the bones jut out from its side. I'm not too into horse anatomy, but to me everything looks like its got its parts in the right spot. :) Me encanta!

Wow, it's beautiful. Definetly an inspired piece of artwork!
