Stardust

I can still remember clearly when I ran away from home
Looking for a better place, for one to call my own
I had visions of a city where dreams were reality
I thought that I could make it. I thought I could break free.

It’s true the sun shines in the day and stars come out at night
But through the chain-link fences, they simply aren’t as bright.
The stardust of this glitzy town is what sticks in your eyes
I’m blinded by the city lights and cannot see the sky.

The streets are lonely here at night; my friends are far away
Once I yearned to come here, and now I’ve got to stay
Among my fellow dreamers, who I thought I could outrun
They smile as they shoot us down and tell us we are done.

I guess I should have realized then that nothing’s as it seems
Before building up the fences that have kept me from my dreams
I’m older now; I’ve lost the time I could have used to roam
Now I’m stuck in this apartment, in a place I can’t call home.

There are snappy men in business suits and Technicolor ties
There are infamous young ladies steeped in glitter and in lies
And then there are the stardust, those with fallen dreams, like me
We thought that we could make it. We thought we could break free.

I don't often write poetry. Not much time anymore, with school and all.

Why, pray, did you stop? You're amazing. You could truly make money selling those...

This one I love. Truly love. Ican relate to it. It's very well written, smooth.

That's really good. I don't often comment on poetry and art but I just wanted to say I think that poem is fantastic. It flows so well, and just...it's brilliant =)

Wow. In truth, I am stunned. The way it flows, the rhythm, the truth, the beauty...truly amazing. I bow to you. *points to Req's worhippy smiley*

The poem flows together rhythmically, and the diction was superb. The disillusionment communicated in the poem is devastating.
