What do you get the friend who has everything?

Wed Jul 13, 2005 9:08 pm

My best friend S-chan's birthday was about a month ago. I was totally lazy and forgot to get her a present, and she's really hard to shop for. Everyone else gets her manga, and she's not into clothes or jewelry or anything. After a few days of wracking my brains trying to think of something, it came to me. What girl WOULDN'T want a scale replica of her favorite shaman's weapon?

It's made entirely out of wood and is a little over five feet long when assembled. It pulls apart to fit into a wooden trunk I painted, and it was a true pain in the butt to get the pieces to fit. The picture is of the blade and the first segment of the shaft. I think I'm going to do a few more replicas and display them in my room to freak my mom out :P

Heck, maybe next year I'll bow to her FMA fan-ness and get her a metal arm x)

Ah, that would be quite cool!

I really like your idea for her gift, that's very sweet. :) And it came out really great! What did you use to cut the wood to make the design on the blade? And how long did it take you to make?

I used a saw with a really small blade, as my dad's jigsaw is buried somewhere in the garage. For the hole through the blade, I just drilled through it a few times and tried to round it out. As you can see, it didn't turn out perfect.

The whole thing probably took about 20 hours total....I got the supplies on Saturday and just finished it today....

Next up is Harusame and the antiquity x)

If I had that kind of patience, I would be able to solve world hunger. But I don't. Sorry!

Back on topic, it's really great! Besides, I'm pretty sure that she won't care if the hole in the blade isn't perfectly round. :P

It's actually a third of the size of the actual one (Well, not actual...You know what I mean.), which is about 15 feet long. I couldn't find a big enough box x)
