I think it was a good piece, I really feel if you'd darkened it (I noticed a considerable difference between my computer, and my parents computer, but it was still very light) using levels it would have been a strong piece. The shading on it once it was darkened was quite lovely. You could see the details on the throat, and on the face more, and that made it more interesting.
I suggest you look into some sort of background shading, it would make the heads image stand out a bit more, the lights lighter, and the darks darker sort of deal. And other then what could be easily called relatively minor proportional flaws, it's not bad.
Put some more work into it, darken it up a bit, and it could be quite impressive.

Wow. Amazing, I would never, EVER have known it wasn't done in pencil.
Once it's darkened up, you can tell by the smooth shading and the hair that it's definately not pencil.
