Three hundred years ago, a group of "mutants" was left on a deserted island, where they formed a colony. For next three centuries, they built colonies, and developed their own intricate religions and systems of government, based off of the fragments of the rest of the world.
They weren't mutants. They were mages. Regular humans, tapping into an infinite power source. But now, some of the islanders have forgotten magic for the sword. And war has now begun...
RANDOM INFO
Mages first appeared in the world as a result of very specific, but accidental, interbreeding in the human race. Several genes, in a particular combination, allowed humans to tap into a power long lost. Most of the time, because of the genes involved, mages reproduce mages, and warriors reproduce warriors. Occasionally carriers of both genes will be born, who can reproduce either offspring.

OTHER STUFF
Keep weaponry and magic type realistic: a Berserker wouldn't be using hand-to-hand combat, for instance, and you're not gonna see a White Mage casting Dark magic. The knight and the red mage are both skilled in nearly any weapon.
Feel free to make up any class you want, so if you want something not listed here, it doesn't matter. Sometimes abilities clash among classes, for instance, Red Mages can use most weapons, and Black Mages can be archers.
