For those topics one could describe as the forum equivalent of a twinkie. Word games, forum contests and giveaways are all the rage here.

Excuses, excuses! {Can be locked!}

Fri Sep 16, 2005 4:13 pm

Voting is closed. You will find out the results in the next issue of PI (Issue 21).

I am trying something out for PI, which requires PPT's help.

If you don't want your name in PI, then stop reading now. I will come to this later.

The way this shall work is every week I shall state a topic for you PPTers to make up excuses for. You then PM me the excuses you come up with. I shall choose the three ones I think are best, and post them for you guys to PM vote. Any votes sent after the day I set will NOT be counted. Sorry guys, but I have to do this so I can get things in quickly (and on time O___o;; ).

In the next issue of PI, I will post the winner and the two runners-up, and then I shall post all the entered excuses.

If you PM me with an excuse, I would like you to put something along the lines of "I give you permission to use my name in PI", or your excuse will NOT make an appearance. If you forget, please edit your PM - if I have not read it yet, you can edit it. Go to your "Outbox" in your messages, and see if your PM is there. Click on it, and edit it. This way, I shall never know of your little miscalculation. You can only send in two excuses, preferably in the same PM, but they don't have to be.

Your topic for this issue is you have not done your essay. What is your excuse?

I don't know how successful this will be, but hopefully marginally.

Looking forward to your PMs. :)

Oh, and you CAN post on this thread, but only to comment, not to put excuses.

You can also discuss the final three excuses I put up, but not say who you're voting for.

Is there a limit to the amount of excuses that you can send in?

Hrm, I hadn't really thought about that, to be honest, but I'll limit it to two so I don't get swamped by PMs.

PI stands for "Pink Ink" which is PPT's official newspaper. It comes out once or twice a month and has a variety of articles/comics/stories/etc...

Yes, however you want it to look, so long as it's understandable. :)

Well, thanks to the amazing help of two of my out of PPT volunteers, who wouldn't be biased, I have chosen the top three excuses.

The first excuse that really stood out to me and my friends, and made us all laugh rather insanely, was the one submitted by .:Compact Disk:.. So thanks for that one, CD!

His excuse was:

Right, here's what happened sir...

I did do the essay but then I was putting the finishing touches to it at my dad's laboratory, when all of a sudden he set fire to it by accident. Lucky for me I had a backup on a floppy disk but my dad's computer had a virus and wiped the disk. Even luckier for me was the fact I had it saved on my computer. So when I got home I printed a new one off. Unfortunatly my dog ate this copy. So I tried to print off a new one... but I had no ink left...

*smiles innocently*

What we particularly liked about this was was the phrase at the beginning, "Right, here's what happened sir...", and the phrase right at the end.

The second which stood out to us was another which made me especially laugh quite hard. Maybe I just have a morbid sense of humour! Give it up for Jens.

... I swear! A fire! My room was on fire! What? You wanna ask my mum? No you can't! Uh, she was burnt! ... Yeah, my dad too!

Nothing like a bit of slapstick, eh?

The third I liked especially, and because I'm main judge, it's my stuff that counts. XD This one made me laugh, probably, the hardest of the three, as the participant cleverly interwove two different excuses, which made it even more amusing. Thank you, Ammer!

"You have not done your essay, what is your excuse?"

I was crying the whole day yesterday; it was the anniversary of my dog's death. If only he was here now, but he can't, because he's dead.

"You have not done your essay, what is your excuse?"

My dog ate it.

"I thought he died?"

He did, he died right after he ate it. Bad indigestion.

Please PM your votes to me. I'll just say it again. PM MEEEE! And just for luck, PM ME!. (= Thankee. PM me the name of the person who's excuse you think is best.

The last three participants can't vote. Sorry guys. :P
