The Murder Game

Tue Dec 27, 2005 6:19 pm

Day 5/2521 Points available.

What is it?

The Murder Game is a game in which you must solve who is the serial killer tearing through London in order to stop the murders and arrest them once and for all. This is not like Cluedo in which Clues get handed to you on a platter, but instead, you must work it out for yourself. It is almost like you are the detectives.

Who can do this?

This contest is open to everybody and anybody, individually or as a team.

Are there prizes?

There is a 40,000NP prize pool and anyone who solves the mystery before the mystery ends will get a cut of the prize, the amount based on how soon you got it. You may work in teams, in which case the amount you win will be split equally between you. You can backstab your team member if you want, in an attempt to win more than him.

This contest will last for exactly 25 days. If you complete it on day 1, then you will win 25 points. If, however, you complete it on day 25, you will get 1 point. Then, each player who has completed it will gain the proportion of the money based on their proportion of the total points. For example:

Rebecca and John are working as a team and solve it on day 6. They get 20 points. Harry solves it on Day 8, and he gets 18 points. Then for a long spell, nobody solves it until Stuart, Olivia and Jamie solve it on day 21, netting themselves 5 points. 43 points have been scored. Rebecca and John get 10/43 of the prize money each which is 9.3k each. Harry gets 18/43, which is 16.7k. The mottley crew who solve it last get 1.5k each.

What can I do?

Basically, you can do anything. This is not like one of those linear games when if you try to do something, then nothing results in it. You are allowed to do anything a normal police officer can do. You can ask questions, delve around and ultimately do whatever you want to do. The story is structured so that there is a lot of open space. However, be careful not to think too obscurely. Although you may be able to interview Bill Gates, that may not get you particularly far.

In order to do an action, post on this thread "I would like to interview Margaret Thatcher" or "I would like to dust the torch for fingerprints." Try to think outside the box, but if something isn't possible, then you just can't do it. "Raise the murder victim from the dead" just ain't allowed.

There are a couple of case specific rules regarding some things:

--- Interviews. Whenever you commit an interview, you should post who you want to interview and what you want to interview them about. Owing to polygraphs (lie detectors) not holding up in court, these will not be available in interviews.
--- Forensics. Forensics reports take a considerable amount of time, and these will only be done if it is seen fit.
--- Searching. In order to search something that does not belong to you, you need a warrant. This will only be issued if you have evidence that it may lead somewhere. In order to search something, say what you want to search, what you hope to find and why you hope to find it there.

What happens if I do [X]?

The results of any action are announced publically, and everything that is going on is recorded on the same website, created by me. You can get to it by following this link:

http://k.domaindlx.com/mattplanet/Murder/index.html

It will be updated as soon as I can. Remember that this is as if it is real life. You can do anything, and expand things in a large number of ways. However, just like in real life, not everybody is completely honest. All of the news reports are created by the media which may be prone to lying. Anyone you interview may lie because they are trying to protect themself.

Any further questions regarding the rules of the 'game' should be posted on the thread, and I will answer them and if I see fit, add them to the FAQ.

The first content (aka the Murder of Claire Moon) is on the website above.

Good Luck — You'll probably need it ;)

This isn't a game you 'join'. Anyone can join in at any time, and then leave if they want. This is a passing in and out thing. Just exist and you are automatically eligible to play.

Ah! Ok. It's just that wasn't stated. Thank you for clearing that up. ^^

Okay i'll give it a go with a question. hopefully i'm doing this right.
I would like to interview Claire Moon's fiance, in the interview asking him where he was during the murder, and a statement from him if possible.
I would also like to interview the first police officer that came to the scene, and ask him to explain the crime scene and see what he found lying around the body, or anything that seems out of place.

Bang on. :)

The interview has been conducted by two officers at the Westminster Police Station - Police Detective Annabelle Friar and Sergant Ahmed Brandon at 3:24 today. The interview tape has been given to you and is printed on the website.

I'd like to Interview the Fiance's Parents and Sister.

Edit: Also could we have the results of the autopsy when it's done.

Also could you please determin the origin of the shot from the angle at which the bullet hit her and the point at which she was standing. Thanks. ^^

The autopsy will be ready within 24 hours. The staff at the morgue are running short due to Christmas.

The Fiance's Parents interviews are up. However, we cannot interview the sister. She lives in Devon and is unwillingto come up just for an interview. Unfortunately, we cannoy force her to come up as she has neither committed any time, or suggested that she has evidence which differs from that of Iain's parents

I would like to please interview Alfred Mandrake. He's the only witness mentioned...

Tue Dec 27, 2005 10:21 pm

I actually watched the show when it was on... 'twas rather scary. I was googling it again just the other day.

The end was scary... and the murder game in the hospital...

:P Anyway, I'll sure be sticking around and taking note.

What would you like to ask him to find out?

It really was a great show. I loved it; and if there's a sequel, you may definitely see me on it.

However, the extent to which this is based on it is the name and the fact that you have to find the murderer.

I would like to interview Iain Martin's dad alone please and find out his views on his son's relationship with Claire Moon

Also, "Iain Martins: I was with my wife all day." His wife?

Typo. I meant fiancee.

What was Claire's cause of death ?? The gun was fired but it is not explicitly stated she died as a result of that. (Also Iain says "The next thing we known she was stabbed.")

I'd like to search the rubbish bin outside Iain's house/apartment/residency for discarded items (which can legally be searched without a warrent)

Is there any punishment for announcing a suspect ?? If there isn't, I'd suggest we announce them early to get as much info as possible
