Round 43
SSBB = Super Smash Brothers Brawl
To all of those interested in joining, there are no sign ups. You can just start playing right off the bat. If you need additional help, I am here most of the time and more than willing to try to help as much as possible.
Story as of now:
- Young Buck O’Neil pic from Wiki
Young Link blasts the Dark Trooper for -4 damage. Ramza uses his Guts to heal for +4 HP and hit Marth for -3 damage. Pichu zaps Ramza for -4 damage. [Mmm... irony.] The Dark Trooper activates its fires a Strafing Run on Sonic Team for -1 damage each.. Yoshi picks up the Pokeball.
Yoshi: Yoshi! [Trans: Infidels! Feel the divine retribution of the heavens! Know that in this, your hour of doom, no savior is at hand! Your existence is nearing its end! There will be no mercy, no quarter given, nor taken, no staying of the wrath of Judgement! A pox, a curse of Death upon you all!]
Yoshi frees Metamon who Transforms into Lizardon and blasts Plusle and Minun, Ice Climber, and Young Link with Flamethrower, dealing -3 damage each. Yuffie runs into the ring and starts handing out Dresspheres to all her allies.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Snake and Meta Knight are in one of the taverns.
Snake: Pitt the Elder!
Meta Knight: Lord Palmerston!
Snake: Pitt the Elder!
Meta Knight: Lord Palmerston!
Meta Knight leaps up and headbutts Snake.
Pit: I think Snake was right about Brittan’s greatest prime minister.
Meta Knight: Of course you would.
Kratos walks up with a drink.
Kratos: You should try this Oran berry juice. It is like there is a party in my mouth and everyone is invited.
Sam: Ugh. These references have gotten so lame.
Chief: Don’t have a cow, man.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sephiroth, Doc/O’Malley, and the Imperial colonel are playing cards.
Doc: Ah! I finally have a good hand. Three human females, a number, and a king giving himself brain surgery.
O’Malley: It doesn’t matter how many human females you have. Sephiroth is on a hot streak.
Sephiroth: Lucky shades.
Taps his sunglasses. I got them from some lucky guy while his lucky seeing-eye dog was taking a whiz.
Ridley: They are x-ray specs!
Sephiroth: Anyone want to bring that to committee?
Colonel:
Covers himself. No!
O’Malley: Bite my shiny, metal...
-----------------------------------------------------------
The GM is reading something in his office when Rufus enters.
GM: As I thought. All of these reference makes me sound like I am talking out of my...
Rufus: But, they are still funny.
GM: True, plus I can’t think of anything else. Besides, we want to take the high road. This isn’t one of those programs that make jokes about farting.
Reno:
Walks past the office. Sorry. I just farted.
GM:
Sighs. At least we aren’t dealing with the fellas at the freakin’ FCC.
0500/1700 Rule: Regardless of when the last update occurred, you may make actions
after 5AM/PM your time zone. There is no need to wait for an update to make an action, but it is recommended. Any actions that break this rule will not count as a legal action and will be promptly (eventually) pointed out. If you miss one of the posting periods, you will not get an extra move. I will allow posts +5 minutes in so you don’t have to rush your action.

Specials follow the same format where appropriate.
Specials and weapons should be used before regular attacks can be used.
Special users can defeat one 1 or 2 HP NPC of their choice in addition to their special use (meaning without targeting the NPC with the special).
Super Smash Attacks (SSA): SSA actions are powerful, character-specific moves with special effects. They can only be activated two ways and usually involve the character being removed from the game (see below) for a short time. The SSA use counter does not reset until all characters have used their SSA. To activate: either use a Smash Emblem or buy it with some points. They may not be ready at the start of the game, but I’ll finish them as soon as possible.
Removed from the Game (RFG): Unlike in Magic: The Gathering, this is not a permanent effect. Characters removed from the game cannot attack or heal but cannot be targeted. They return to play after a set amount of rounds. At least three characters will remain in play at all times.
Special Character - Gogo: Due to Gogo’s unique nature, I will post his information every round. If there are any questions, PM me, and I will willingly help.
Gogo cannot attack or heal. He is active every round. He has only one special which he uses every round.
Special: Mime: *Gogo copies the last action done (the post above this use). *Gogo’s user may choose new targets. *If a special was used, Gogo receives -3 damage in addition to the special’s effects. *Cannot mime SSAs or actions in the GM’s posts. *Cannot be the first action of the round. *If Gogo is not used, he automatically heals for +1 HP each round, but he starts with 30 HP at the beginning of the game. *He counts as male for gender related contests.

Round 43 Announcements:
1:
Both Brackets are Active!
2: Another special day thanks to the long weekend. We’re covering the Negro Leagues today.
3: Today’s subject: Negro Leagues. The Leagues started back in the 1860s, before the US Civil War. The play was considered ‘amateur’ but was still pretty popular to see all-Black teams play each other and even all-White teams. In the 1870s and 1880s, the all-Black teams became more organized and developed into professional teams. This occurred since the all-White leagues were doing the same time. Several African-American players, starting with Bud Fowler, even played with some of the White teams before the formation of the Major Leagues. Over the next several years, many managers tried starting an organized, all-Black league. Thanks to manpower demands in WWI, the spread of African-American ballplayers that served in workforce caused the appeal of all-Black teams to spread. With the demand and monetary draw in place, the Negro National League was able to form in February 1920. The league lasted for 11 years and experienced some highs and lows before folding. Fortunately, the next year saw the revival of the Negro Leagues at hand. Several teams were brought back and kept playing. In 1933, a huge investment in new stadiums and players, including Satchel Paige, saw the eventual rebirth of the new Negro National League. The league introduced many elements of the Major Leagues, including an All-Star Game. During WWII, the Negro Leagues, like the Major Leagues, faced player shortages but still carried on. They even held the Negro League World Series in 1942 which lasted until 1948 with the ends of the leagues. After the war, signs of integration started showing, starting with the recruitment of Jackie Robinson by the Dodgers. He played his first Major League game in 1947 and thus started the ends of the Negro Leagues. Soon after Robinson, many more Major League teams started integration, with plenty of help from Buck O’Neil, and all of the talent in the Negro Leagues dried up. Most of the teams folded or became minor league teams. Recently, the Major League’s Hall of Fame held a special committee to admit former Negro League players, managers, and owners. Several talented players were admitted, as well as two
White owners. In a major offence to many fans of baseball, Buck O’Neil was not admitted. Many have called for another special committee to be formed to correct that error as well as admit many players that should also have been recognized.
4: Today’s subject: Jackie Robinson. Robinson grew up in a tough life in Pasadena, California. After abandoning life in a gang, he continued his schooling and joined many sports teams in high school. He earned awards for his tennis and baseball skills throughout high school. In junior college, Robinson played baseball and (American) football as well as field events. After a stint in the Negro Leagues, he was recruited to the Brooklyn Dodgers. He began play in 1947, shattering the color line. Early in his career, he faced a lot of racism. During a game against the Phillies, the entire Phillies bench and coach shouted slurs and insults at Robinson the whole game. The incident only made Robinson’s bond with the Dodgers even more solid. Throughout the rest of his career, Robinson was a pretty good player. He still leads the game in most times stealing home base since WWII. The rookie of the year award is now called the Jackie Robinson Award. After baseball, Robinson worked with the NAACP and was an outspoken supporter of Dr King. He was a big player in the Civil Rights Movement and even campaigned for both Hubert Humphry (Dem) and Richard Nixon (Rep). Awards given to Robinson: Baseball Hall of Fame, Congressional Gold Medal, and Presidential Medal of Freedom.
5: Today’s subject: Buck O’Neil. Born into poverty, John Jorden O’Neil had to work in a celery field with his father before leaving to live with other relatives and receive a high school education. He took up barnstorming and was eventually recruited to the Memphis Red Sox in the newly formed Negro American League. He was eventually traded to the Kansas City Monarchs where he eventually broke the color line and became a player/manager, guiding the team to two championships. He was an above average player while he played. After his time with the Monarchs, O’Neil was recruited as a scout for the Chicago Cubs and eventually was made the Cubs’ first African-American coach. He lead to the recruitment of many African-American players including Hall of Famer Lou Brock. O’Neil became a scout for the Kansas City Royals in 1988 and was named the area’s scout of the year in 1998. A lot of his fame came from his narration of the Negro Leagues’ part of the Ken Burns documentary on baseball. He has also made countless interviews, even appearing with David Letterman. After the special committee for the induction of Negro League members failed to induct O’Neil, O’Neil himself was one of the few that were not outraged. He even spoke on behalf of the deceased inductees at their induction. His last game was in July of 2006 where he played a minor league game at age 94, allowing him to still be considered in upcoming Baseball Hall of Fame committees. Hopefully the committees will not screw up this time.
6: Reorganization: By location of birth. Some characters did not have an easily discernable place of birth. Many characters had only a vague area (i.e., Japan or Europe). Most had at least the vague area.
