PPTers Against Animal Cruelty (Set two by Rylon is up!)

Mon Jun 14, 2004 10:26 pm

PPTAAC is a group for those of us who love animals. This board is for discussion and sightings of animal abuse, where advice on pet care can be given and stories cried over.

PPTAAC first began in early February (I think) as a Boycott Petco thread. Thanks to many ideas and support of countless members, it became what we have today. Recently, we have started having weekly discussions on certain things, and each member has a turn to pick the discussion.

Anyone can join PPTAAC just by posting, but please don't join unless you really care about animals.

Updates
We've been given a second chance to be active again. Let's not let it go dead this time! I'm still looking for graphics (especially sets and buttons). My plan is to have three sets and have people use them for maybe a week or so and link their signatures to here. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE A SET OR BUTTON TO REMAIN A MEMBER... it would be nice, though. :P If you can think of anything to bring in some more activity to our cause, please post it. By the way, if the set URLs are too long for you, please PM me or post and I'll find a way to get the URL shorter. :) And if you chose to use a set, you MUST credit the maker.

The Truth About Animal Abuse

This section is dedicated to websites that show the truth about things such as puppy mills and other animal abusive places. Read these, cry over them, and pass them onto others to help spread the message- animal abuse is wrong, and the more people who are against it the better. If you want a website added here, just post.

I"LL JOIN!!

I think Petsmart or Petco is good because they have crickets for annoles.

My favorite store is PetsMart. I can always find things easily there and none of their animals look depressed.

PetCo, in my opinion is the absolute worst store ever. There's been hundreds of animal abuse reports in their chain.

Not every pet store is the same Dawn.
Just because some of the Petcos (this isn't a chain where I live), are dirty and illkempt doesn't mean that all of them will be the same.
I'm quite sure that every petstore has had a screw up. Your best bet, whenever you buy pets would be directly from a breeder no matter what you do.
The larger chains where I live, only offer animals from animal shelters now.
Buying food, and treats, and pet supplies is fine enough from most shops. But it's best to be careful when buying critters from any type of store.

Well, I guess I said that because there has been so many complaints about their stores.

EDIT: Just realised all the complaints are from PETA. Never mind on that thought. PETA has a good purpose and all, but I can't help believing that they're biased.

I remember the discussion on PetCo... In my opinion they don't treat the animals right.
Last time I went there (5 years ago), they had birds flying freely, and 1 acually got stuck in a net, dead fish, and overcrowded rabbit cages.
But that was a long time ago.

I actually like PETA, they're real informative, and they give you the raw truth.

prob'ly PetsMart. I've never seen any dead fish there. Ever. Only once has any fish died of ours from there excluding normal life span. The people who work thereknow what they're saying. They are an actual help in what to buy... PetsMart is definitely PetSmart...

I don't have too much experience with either, but I figure it varies by store and by employees. The Petsmart I got my hampster Hamfast at seemed ok (except beta fish were dying left and right, I didn't notice that for a while) but then Hamfast died after 3 weeks. You never know. I've never experienced and horrible petcos, but I've never been to any. XD

Might as well join again...

I think that local petstores (1 or a couple of stores in the area) that have been around in the area for awhile (I forgot what they're most commonly called) are the best. This is mainly because if they've been around for say, 10 or more years, then that means they have a good reputation. For example, we recently took one of our dogs to one of these stores to get her groomed. They did a fantastic job, much better (and shorter) than PetsMart and Petco, and the price wasn't that bad. They were also VERY friendly.

The Petco near me is not very good. People dont answer your questions, bird cages are small and cramped, they have the Ferrets WALKING on eachother..ugh.

But,my favorite store is..Mall..Mall..Mall..ec..something. Blah. Starts with a M. I dont know if its a chain,but I dont think..I like PetsMart,too. Very nice.

PETA isn't my thing..

EDIT: Edited so no one is offended. Sorry!

EDIT 2: Same as above edit.

PETA annoys me. Bad.

Speaking of Malls, there's a pet store at the mall closest to our house. I think it's called... PasPets. Anyway, in their store, I've never seen an unhappy animal. The betas never just lie down at the bottom of their tanks, the puppies and older dogs never sit in corners- they try to scratch through the glass on their containers to get to you, their tails wagging left and right. You can't see the ribs of one animal there, and everybody seems happy and healthy. :D

Ugh.. Petco! I went there for gerbiols and they were weak looking. I likie mPet City personally.

Wed Jun 23, 2004 2:47 pm

I'll join. There is no PetCos in Canada. We have Wiskers. Yes the birds are out of cadges but they stay on the ceneter branch. Aloud to be free. All puppys are from owners that their dogs gave birth to. I was just mad that my friend's mom set my dog and her dog's puppies to there. (my dog fathered them.) They are so cute!

I just have to say that this week's TIME magazine mentioned a PetCo store in the article that featured Neopets. It didn't mention anything wrong going on in that store. Just a little interesting note. :)
