NOTE: This isn't the place to debate the existence of ghosts. It's just the place to share stories on which ones you have bumming around your house at the moment.

Some of us have ghosts hanging about the house. If you're one of those people, which ones are hanging around your house? Are they relatives of yours or strangers? Are they nice or malicious?

I know that some of my relatives pop in once in a while. I have a very creepy ghost who used to be in one of those insane asylums a long while ago, when they didn't take very good care of the residents. She has no teeth and is very frightening. I also have a couple other creepy ones running around, including this little girl who follows me around the house just to freak me out. There's way too many to list individually, those two just stand out as being scariest.

I've never really had one that could throw stuff. This one girl I know has one that knocks things off of shelves. I've seen it and it's really scary. How about you guys? Got any stories?

My brother has better stories than mine, but I'll share what I know.

The house I grew up in was very old. Originally the upstairs and downstairs were two different apartments. After my parents bought the house, we never used the upstairs for much, because there was no central heat and air up there, among other reasons.
One thing we did use it for, was for recreation. In one room, we had a pool table, a dart board, stero system, etc.
Now, I was very small when all of this stuff occured, but I do remember some of it.
Know how they say ghosts don't know they're dead? I seriously don't think they do. Because ours would play pool. We'd all be downstairs, no one was upstairs at all, and we'd hear the distinct sounds of pool being played. Footsteps, cue sticks cracking against the balls, or tapping on the floor, and the occasional ball bouncing off of the table and rolling across the floor. That's freaking creepy when you know that no one is in that room at all.

Another story I've been told about, this occured before I was born. My oldest sister was fairly young, about 4, when she woke up in the middle of the night to see an elderly gentleman sitting on her bed, wearing a hospital gown, with his ankles crossed. He was a ghost, and at the time, she didn't even know what a hospital gown was. She described it as a 'funny white dress', and several days later, saw someone in a hospital gown on TV, and confirmed that that's what he'd been wearing.

I've never seen ghosts but I'm sure I've felt them. In the current house I'm in, I'm fairly sure there is a ghost, however it settled down as we did. It was riled up by changing ownership of the house and set about bothering me in my sleep until it got used to use.

It's never happened to me but I love watching ghost programmes. Thanks for making this topic by the way, I'm in the room alone and the TV is broken. It is completely silent and I'm bloody scared out of my wits. I need a cuddle.

I've never had dealings with ghosts, likely because I don't personally believe in them. However, my family members have had issues with ghosts in two of the houses we lived in, so perhaps I actually should. :p

In our big, old farmhouse a girl used to haunt one of my older brothers. She liked to sing "Going to the Chapel" to him, and the few times he saw her (usually through a window when he was coming into the house at night and everyone else was in bed), she was wearing an old-fashioned wedding gown. He once stayed up all night clutching his Highlander sword, determined to cut off her head if she tried coming after him. My brother is a bit odd though. ^^; I think this finally quit occurring after he got married. Although perhaps the ghost was repulsed by the filth that he and his wife lived in and decided getting on with her afterlife was much better than sticking around and bugging him. ^_-

In the smaller house we lived in next (next door to the big, old farmhouse), my mother was convinced that the previous occupant was still around. He loved flowers, and very frequently she would be alone and a very strong sent of flowers would fill the house. Since she had a black thumb, it wasn't due to any of our flowerbeds, plus the windows were shut anyway. I believe my other older brother had a similar experience after he purchased the house, but he doesn't talk about it much.

oooohhhh... i have one that haunts my rom and my room only... i think it might be a cow or somehting because our neighbors had a fence and it had a sign that said something about ranching and we have a fairly big lot and such, and across the road is a pasture and such... but anyway, i've never seen this particular one, but i know its there, because i'll go to sleep with my door closed at 1 and have something infront of it so it cant be opened from the outside and it wil be open... and then i wil wake up and i'll have these scratch things on my legs where they've been peirced.... and then one time i woke up to get a drink and i saw these things that looked like skeletons, but it might have been old people, i didnt get a good look and this was like 3 or 4 years ago... and so i looked in the living room...(lol.. thats kinda ironic.. living room, and there ... lol) and there were like 6 people and they were reading the news paper... after that i ran back into my room and hid under my blanket...

I, personally, have not had any ghost experiences that I can remember.

Same here ...I feel left out. :(

I have heard of spooky happenings going on in some houses quite far away.
Such as people actually being killed by ghosts ...though I have no idea if those are real or just neighborhood myths. :P

I swear a ghost is watching me sleep. Once or twice, when I stay up late, the door to my bedroom and the door to my closet sometimes opens. And it's freaky. XP There was this once, when my bedroom door opened, and then, afterwards, it slammed shut.

Well our house was built when we moved in but i still feel the presence of ghosts because of the land it was built on. I sometimes feel like i see ghosts in some of our rooms like one time it looked like i saw a lady with a white gown and a pale blue looking face, it was creepy. Allthough it could just be my imagination?...

I knew I shouldn't have visited this topic, I'm going to have nightmares :(
And Sapphire Faerie, I keep hearing your stories, and they freak me out each time. How do you deal with it, I'd be out of my mind if I lived in a house occupied by dead people.

Well, it mostly stopped by the time I was like 6 or 7, maybe they just got used to us. But still, I wouldn't go upstairs by myself until I was about 13 or 14. We don't live there anymore though.

Ok, this isnt really about Ghosts in my House, but its as close as I can get, and a good yarn nonetheless. I might have posted it before, but I cant remember.

--------------------------

When I was a young lad, maybe 12 or 13, a favourite passtime of my friends and mine was camping. Not the Disney™ version where you and the family find a flowery meadow full of strangely tame rabbits in which to pitch your tent, and then frollick between the daisies chasing butterflies.

Nothing like that infact. Our Camping involved us pitching my Mate Chris' tent on any available patch of grass large enough in our village which we wouldnt be instantly evicted from. Parks, Graveyards, our lawns, anything! It wasnt beautiful surroundings we were after. Like any young tearaways, we just wanted to be away from our parents and free to roam our small country village in the wee-hours of the night, feeling dead tough and grown up during the process.

Note : Jim, and by extension PPT, do not in any way condone or encourage children ( or adults for that matter ) to roam the streets at night.

It was on one balmy Summers night that we pitched our tent on some grass out the back of my house. We had all the necessities- Biscuits, Fizzy Pop, Sweets, Torches, Matches ( building fires was a BIG part of the fun of camping out. I dont condone burning things either, so dont go torching your school and telling them the funny english man in the computer made you do it! ), toilet paper ( you never know), and more sweets.

Picture the scene if you will: Four young lads mooching around a village at 4am full of sugar. Yes it was fun. Now go read the first note again.

One of my mates ( cant remember which, now ), had the bright idea of going up to the Primary School we used to attend. Now this is a pretty creepy place in the day time- huge old Victorian buildings- so it would be even scarier at night. This of course meant it was a brilliant idea!

Now, the driveway to the school is a totally enclosed road of about 100 meters with 10 foot high brick walls on either side. As you finally reach the school, you are greeted with the main hall to your front, the kitchens to your left, and the Infants section to your right. We decided to walk to the left and around, hoping to circle the complex and arrive back at the drive new manly men grrr much beating of chests style'o'fing.

We never got that far.

As we turned the corner of the kitchens to circle the small walled-off section where the bins are stored, we were all frozen in our tracks by something on the wall.

To this day I cant describe it without feeling Im leaving something out. Imagine if you will the sort of vision movie makers try and create when they want to show an opening or portal into another dimension. A sort of swirling mass of smoke and white light with barely discernible shapes in it. Im not saying this is what it felt like, just what it looked like. There was also what looked to be a woman shrouded in the mist, and we later all agreed on this, but I think the power of suggestion may have played a part here.

So we legged it. As you do.

I mean, come on. Scared the pants of off us. We ran all the way back around and to the top of the drive before we stopped and started gibbering to each other like frightened old women. Then we pulled ourselves together and resigned to return to see if our eyes were just playing tricks on us. But first ( in true Bram Stoker tradition ), we fashioned crude torches from sticks and old ice-pole wrappers and crisp packets we found on the floor, and lit with the matches.

And off we went.

Ohhhh so much slower than before.

Nobody really wanting to be in front.

Torches held aloft, with those small firey drips falling that you always seem to get when you burn plastic.

We reached the end of the drive and we turned left. We crept toward the bin storage, almost hugging the opposite wall in an effort to put as much space between us and whatevertheheckitwas. And...

...

..IT WAS STILL THERE!!!!

Yet again, we freaked. Ran like little Mummies boys back up the drive. This time, we didnt even stop there! We actually ran across the village green and into the graveyard of the Church. I think somebody mumbled something about Holy Ground ( Mr Stoker must be so proud by now ). At this juncture we decided to arm ourselves more formidably. It just so happened that at the time renovations were being performed on the cobbled car park outside the Church. We spotted some pegs that the builders had obviously been using as guide lines for the work, and snatched them up. Each peg was about a foot long, made of wood, and sharpened at once end.

Any second now Bram's family are going to send me an summons to appear in court on the grounds of plagiarism.

Anyway, newly tooled up, we yet again decided that we just had to see this thing one more time. We retraced our steps ( even more slowly this time ) untill we found ourselves infront of the kitches. As one animal we lept around the corner brandishing our now near-useless torches and pointy sticks to behold...

....

.....

down a bit more...

...last one I promise..

..IT WAS GONE!!!

Yup. Like it had never even been there. To our credit, we had a look around to see if anything could have fooled us- some security light from a neighbouring garden playing on the wall or something- but could find no earthly explanation. We returned to our tent and spent a fitfull night waiting for the sun to come up and our parents to unlock the doors.

And thats my story. I still dont know what it was, but the explanation "Ghost" is as good as any. This building is a couple of hundred years old, and legend tells that it isnt the first to stand on that spot. Local archaeologists tell us that there have been dwellings on the site of my village for over 7000 years, so if Ghosts are real, I think the chances for something so awful to have happened that the common belief of this sort of thing keeping a spirit in our world is a very real possibility.

If you actually read this far, I applaude you. Its a long story, but I cut out as little as possible so as not to discredit it. You may scoff and harrumph and cry "Kids with bellies full of sugar. No wonder they saw thing!", but for 4 boys to all have the same hallucination stretches anything of the sort a little thin to my mind.

The ghost of the person who used to own our house lives in my basement. The first time we discovered it was when we were all eating dinner at our kitchen table, and a little ball of sort-of yellowish light came floating up the stairs, across the kitchen, and to the screen door, where it disappeared. Next day we called up the 'Ghost Busters of Utah' or somesuch company (can't remember the exact name) and had them come in. They went down there with all this equipment and did....soemthing. I dunno what. We weren't allowed down. And told us we had a ghost. He's never made another big appearance like that first one, but he's still here. You can only see him in infrared, though, If you turn off all thhe lights and turn the vido camera on infrared, then you can watch the little screen and see the little specks of light, just sort of wandering across. They like the bottom of the stairs esecially.

That's really only the 'guaranteed' one. There's a girl that likes to follow me. I think she's like 17, about 4 years older than me. She talks to me sometimes, just about...y'know, stuff. It's like having an oldr sister that isn't really there.

And there's a poltergeist, too. I think it posesses me sometimes. It loves messing with the telly controls.

And OMG..I forgot the most important one (at least IMO) This has a pretty good story behind it. When I was about 8, my friend Erick and I were swimming at the rec center near his house. WE met a guy there, and he was giving us rides around, just playing with us. It was great fun. Anyway, he left after a couple of hours and said he was going to go over tot he high-dives with a few of his mates. About...oh, 15 minutes later, the place was swarming with paramedics. We had no idea what happened, so we went over the the high-dive pool. The place wasn't contained yet, so we were able to get right up to the pool. Right by the side was the man we'd been playing with. He'd done a belly flop off the highest board, and his chest cavity had like split open. He died just then, but he looked straight at me before he did. Ever since then, he see the reflection of his face in the water, either next to mine or instead of it. And sometimes I see blood in the watter like it's coming from my hands.
