My dad..

Thu Dec 02, 2004 5:41 pm

My dad went into open heart surgery a little bit ago. My mom pulled me out of school so I could be with him when he gets out of surgery. His chest was hurting and he couldn't breathe very well on Sunday and he went to the hospital. He got some blood work done and everything was normal execpt his white blood cell count. They took X-rays of his heart and got the results back. He had a stress test done and it showed that one of the left arteries was burst. He was in the hospital yesterday and I didn't get to see him. I haven't seen him in a couple days and I'm worried. The doctors are going to crack open his chest and take out a vain or something and attatch it to the broken ends of the old one. He sounded scared last night when I talked to him about it. :(

The doctors were surprised he felt better after the hospital visit on Sunday because of the problem. It is kinda serious but its not like hes going in for a heart transplant or anything but it is still a bypass surgery.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for your dad hon. My grandfather had stints put into his heart and my father had a quadruple bypass and both did fine. I think you're dad will be in that doing fine catagory too.

Your dad will be fine.
Surgeries like this are quite common now.
I myself have experienced five accounts of open heart surgery, and a total of 15 heart related surgeries over all. And i'm still alive. (But i'm a miracle... but still)
Your dad will be fine. Having never really been on the other side though, i'm sure it's quite worrying for you. Just behave really well when he first gets home. And don't go running up to your dad and give him a really big hug when you first see him.
Those hurt.
*nods*

*hugs*
He'll be fine, but best wishes to you and your family. I know it can be a really stressfull time.

Hes out of surgery and doing fine. Thanks for the hugs and prayers :) they help out a lot. I saw him today after it and he looked good considering what he went though. No problems during the surgery and everything looks good :) He is probably going to be able to come home on Sunday :)

My uncle had that, or something like it, done to him a while ago. He couldn't drive or pick up anything heavier than a loaf of bread for 6 months, but it saved his life. Took a vein out of his leg and put it by his heart. And that was emergency, and hes an old man, and he's fine.
He'll keep doing great, best wishes.
