Drinking and smoking

Sat Feb 05, 2005 10:30 am

Do you drink (alcohol) and/or smoke regularly? What do you think about them? Harmful? Ok if done in moderation (define moderation)? Or totally fine and harmless?

I don't smoke, I haven't even tried it. Never have, never will. If I'm in the vicinity of someone who is smoking I start feeling queasy and sick. I think the medical problems associated with smoking speak for themselves.

I'm 19 and legally allowed to drink in Australia. Yes, I do drink on occassion. I've woken up very sick a couple of times and totally regretted drinking the amount I had the night before - I now avoid drinking in excess after those escapades. What does "on occassion" mean for me? Once a week to once a fortnight (on holidays) to a couple of times a month if that when I'm at Uni (this is usually because of parties) and even then it'll only be a couple of drinks and not to the extent of getting "trashed" (I hate losing control :P).

I consider myself to be a "good" drinker if there is such a thing, I try to look after myself - I drink plenty of water, I don't drink alcohol with an empty stomache, I make sure I'm always in a safe environment etc.

I think alcohol is alright if done safely. Yes, there are associated medical problems (it can't be denied) but for the most part if you're sensible and don't have any pre-existing problems then you're chances are greatly reduced.

I don't think smoking or alcohol could ever be defined as "totally harmless". Those that would define smoking and alcohol as "totally harmless" would be the ones that I'd label as most at risk of encountering the problems as they're not sensible - saying they're totally harmless is just proof of that.

I have drank alcohol and smoked.

Social drinking. I've only been drunk once, which was at a concert.

I don't smoke regularly, and don't plan to again- the last time I smoked was the time I was pretty drunk, lol :P

Sensible drinking is alright. I don't approve of people who go out with the express intention to get wasted; it's quite sad if that's the only way you can have fun.
Don't like smoking.

Don't smoke, and don't plan to... I have asthma, and the smallest things trigger it.
Drinking... Um, I have drunk before, but never gotten drunk... The drinking age here is 18, and i'm one year short :P

I don't smoke -- I have asthma. A few of my friends smoke socially, though.

I drink socially, though it's not all that often. I'm underage, yet it's still kinda legal. Don't get how that works. I've never been completely gone so far that I don't know what's happening, though.

I don't smoke, I think it's kind of nasty (no offence to those who smoke, it's just not really my thing)
I don't drink either, I can't stand the taste of alcohol. Even if it's only in small amounts, I can taste it and it really puts me off.

I don't smoke and never will - I have asthma.

Don't drink, though I've had a bit at my dad's. My mum doesn't drink at all. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as it's not excessive and people aren't driving afterwards.

I drink and smoke I'm nursing a hangover as I'm typing this now hehe

I won't smoke, as it will ruin my breathing, and I have asthma.

I had a beer filled candy one, man that was a horrible after taste.

Same on all accounts, man I hate hangovers.

I actually smoked semi-regularly for a couple of months many years ago but thankfully I realized how stupid it was and stopped. Every once in a while if I'm around friends that are smoking, I'll take a hit off of someone's cigarette as a joke. But not often at all, not more than twice a year.
I'm 19, and though the legal drinking age here is 21, I do drink on occasion. Mainly on special occasions, and I never drink anything extremely hard, mainly mixed drinks. I've never gotten totally drunk. Never to the point where I don't know what I'm doing. I do like drinking though.

Don't smoke, and I *probably* never will. I've had a taste of beer before, and honestly one taste was good enough for me- the stuff was nasty. However, I do (and am usually forced) to drink a bit of wine when we have big smanchy family over, and I can live with that. I doubt I'll go into either drinking or smoking as a hobby, however, because for one I don't really want to die by having black lungs, and kill myself or kill someone else by being drunk. Drinking and smoking excessively= lose/lose situation.

At my bat mitzvah (this was before I decided I was atheist), I actually asked for them to put water in my cup thingy instead of wine. Then, because the water was so clear and the cup was so shiny, someone thought the cup was empty and almost poured wine into the water...but I'm getting off topic. No, I don't drink or smoke. I never will.

No, I never have and never will.

I don't think either are vey healthy.

Smoke?: No. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke.

Drink?: Yes. But it's really rare. I'll drink like... once every 2 or 3 months or so.
