Thankyou for the warning

I had this happen to me a few years back I believe, it was a file and once I got it I couldn't delete it off my computer the usual way (I wouldn't have accepted it if I hadn't totally and utterly trusted my friend). Anyways, there isn't word out on the likely name of the file or anything?

And do they know they sent it? Like, is it attached to a file they were purposely sending, or does it sort of... send itself?

As horribly as my computer's running, a virus might actually help... I suppose it's a good thing I don't use MSN anymore. *hugs his Gmail acccount* I better go check my contacts for MSN addresses though. Thanks for the head up. ^_^

Hmm, I suppose it's those "hahaha.pif" or "LOL.[whatever the extension was]" files people were attempting to "send" me a week ago. Three people in a day, in fact. Hasn't happened again since...but still, it's good to keep a lookout. :)

yeah, it was files with names that would make you accepty (such as hahaha or LOL) and I think almost all the files had a
.pif extension.

Funny, there was a virus going around my contact list as well. Except the files had names like 'John_Ker.scr' or 'She's_fit.exe'
My friend got his virus. And he kept on trying to send me it, unknowingly of course. And after about 30 seconds, it logged him out of MSN anyway.
I tried downloading it actually, trusting my friend. But good ol Norton picked it up, killed it half-way.

Always proves that an Anti-Virus program helps.

Yeah, I've read over the past weeks many news of this occurence. Just be careful when accepting files from anyone, even your own friends, and you'll be alright. Upgrading your MSN Messenger to the latest version is a necessary step too.

Thanks for the warning
Normally I don't accept files ending in something unless the other person says what it is xP That comes from someone trying to send me a very rude, red prank

Does anyone know how to get rid of it when you get it?
Wed Feb 16, 2005 4:46 pm
erm, I'm not sure how to remove it. I guess first thing would be to run a virus scan.
Also, a new virus is and
handcuff.pif file. it'll be a weblink like
http://DOMAINNAME/USERNAME/handcuff.pif
(explained better on
http://mess.be
just so you all know

A bunch of my friends fell for it and i got about 20 msgs with that link
I actually clicked it the first time I got it but it didn't like download automatically so I was lucky

Yay I got rid of it easily it was my own fault cos my cousin had the virus and I accepted it without even looking what the file was.
