That statement is false.
What is the stupidest question you have ever asked/been asked/heard someone ask?
And, no, the question, "What is the stupidest question you have ever asked/been asked/heard someone ask?" does not count.

My mother once asked me if Canada was near France.
And she was dead serious.
And she's been to Canada.
I'm extremely great at geography, so this occurance was especially sad to me.

My ex & I were shopping at a dollar store, and she asked a clerk how much something cost. When there was a VERY LARGE SIGN saying "Everything is $1"...

There is no such thing as a stupid question... Only stupid people
Actually, I disagree to some extent the statement is false. I think most "stupid" questions can be asked due to lack of initiative or lack of understanding.
I honestly can't think of the stupidest one I've ever heard.
I suppose on an educated level it might have been the confusion of one of the other students in one of my classes about why the Reserve Bank can't just print out and give out more money whenever they want.

Once, my friend, about to attempt to jump over an electric fence asked me,
"Will this hurt?"
I laughed my brains out of my nasal passages. Of course it was going to hurt.
And yes, it hurt... oh it hurt...

One of my friends asked me what's a Hexagon last week... Bear in mind he's 16!

Why isn't ____ working?
I know its a perfectly good question, but I have people surrounding me that don't know you have to press the on switch.

I read in a magazine that this one ditzy girl was hitting on the photo counter clerk and trying to strike up conversation. She asked him, "So, how long does the one hour photo take?"

these are from the same person and he does in fact spend most of his time asking stupid questions...
How could I possibly get 7 zeroes? I only didn't do homework for a week.
Why is the Japanese teacher always mad at me? I mean I just sit around and do nothing.
And seconds after the math teacher had said the test was tomorrow and it's written on the board. So, when is our test?

Yes, Syrill, those questions definately outweigh the Turtledove one I asked you earlier. <.< However, as its the stupidest one I remember...
What sounds do Turtledoves make? Coo?
^.^ Yeap, I said that. *Bows low*
Stupid Questions are meant to be answered with Stupid Answers. =D

That's the curse of customer service work. You can't respond to stupid questions with stupid answers. (The mute button is a godsend, I tell ya.)
Guy I was sitting next to when we were troubleshooting problems with satellite TV equipment
actually got a call from that supposedly mythical customer . . . the one who doesn't understand why she can't watch TV
just because the power is out.
One call we used to get a lot was: "I've got a message on my TV that says, 'We are experiencing temporary technical difficulties. Please stand by.' What does that mean?"
Well, we (the TV station/satellite people) are (right now) experiencing (having) temporary (it won't be forever) technical difficulties (problems with the doohickeys). Please stand by (there's nothing you need to do -- the fact that the message is on your TV screen shows that we're aware of the problem, so we're working on it).

I've heard plenty stupid questions in my life but unfortunately, I can't remember any of them now. I'll edit my post if I can think of any.

"Why does my [chargrilled] steak taste burnt?"
"Where's the US?"
"Where's the 2 come from?" (In maths)
Scott: So, wait, where's the 6 come from? (At that point, perfectly legit - we were learning a new theory in maths)
Mike: Times the top by the side. So it'd be three times two equals six.
Scott: ...Why? (referring to the second part)

Well in year 9 these guys were asking: what would you do if you were hit by a bus?
[some wonderfully amusing answers:
guy one: Hm...I don't know...interesting questions.
guy two: get up and hit the driver
guy three: get up and walk away
guy four: uh...I don't know?]
