Anything and everything goes in here... within reason.

I have question for you: When it comes to critiquing/commenting one someone else's art/writing/work/picture, do you tend to tell what you truthfuly feel or do you praise them, even if you don't think it isn't really that great?
Or would you choose not to comment on it, even if that person has asked for comments?

If I didn't have some sort of feeling about the work I wouldn't comment on it at all. Generally, I think all work has its own charms (particularly if it is original). I like giving praise, I know it can often be a real motivator however if there are glaring problems that I can see I'll often try to tactfully point them out so the person knows for next time. I try to stand by the fact that, if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all but where I can make a fair, helpful, impartial critique I'm quite happy to do so.

I prefer the truth. It can only make your work better.

Well, if you don't tell them the truth, they'll [possibly] never correct it in another potential masterpiece ...better to hurt them for the better...

I do all three... But most of the time I just don't comment... Sometimes I just don't feel like I have anything worthy of saying to that artist.

I don't critique art.

All three :/ If I really, really, really hate it I'll be silent...
Not to say that I hate the stuff on the art gallery I haven't responded to! I just can't think of a response.

I'd prefer the cold hard truth. But it must be the truth- some people are nasty for nastiness' sake.
When commenting on art I tend to constructive criticism. i'll point out flaws but not in an overly harsh way. I'll also pick up on something that I can genuinely praise because encouragement is the key.

If I see a piece of art that I don't like, I simply don't comment.
Yet, then again, I don't critique art often. Or at all.

I tend to tell the truth. However, I will always comment on an aspect that I think is good. I don't think an entire criticism does anything for the artist. There needs to be some positve feedback on it too.

I'm afraid I'd hurt someones feelings. So I never say anything bad about anyones art.
Mon Mar 28, 2005 5:42 pm
Hmm..if I don't like it, I'll say the truth, but in the nicest way possible. Sometimes it's best to keep my trap shut though. :/
Mon Mar 28, 2005 5:54 pm
If I can't see anything good about it, I mostly say silent.
If I can find things I like, I comment on those, and, ah, leave the parts I don't like out. =]
(But no offense if I don't comment on you thing in the Gallery, that is one of those I leave 'till last and sometimes miss it anyways.

)

I either give a compliment or say nothing. I'm like that with everything, except when I don't like a person, or when I like the person enough to tell them the truth.

Before I would have said lies on his drawing or something...
Oneday, someone told me my things were cool...Then, I realized he was lying to me...It's just totally help ma... cause if you realize someone is lying saying it's beautiful...its even worse than if he say he doesn't like it...right?
