How to blow $300 of Birthday money

Sat May 07, 2005 9:25 am

Heheh, I just had my birthday recently, and I was wondering what I should do with the $300 or so i've got.

Now, I'm set on getting a new guitar. But I wasn't sure which kind of guitar I should get.

Should I spend my money on a great Acoustic Guitar, a mediocre Electric Acoustic or save it up and buy a good electric and a good amp when I save up around $900.

In case you didn't know, the difference between an acoustic and an electric acoustic is that you can't plug an acoustic into an amplifier, whilst you can do just that with an electric acoustic. But otherwise, they're virtually the same.

So... buy good, buy mediocre, or save it up and buy booty kicking awesome?

I'd wait for awesome.

Ahh, alas, the guitar I have now is practically falling apart :( And if I wait, it'd be for at least a year, seeing as how I'm 15 and unemployed XD

And also, acoustic guitars are more portable - you can take them camping and whatnot.

But Electric guitars are freakin awesome. They can make a novice sound like a pro :P

Well are you a novice, or a pro?

Consider me in between. I can play songs well, quite often without error, but some of the more complicated songs leave me all over the place. Anything that's played too fast, I just can't seem to keep up with.

Buy both! get a good second hand for both. :D

Nah, Second hand is almost never in as good condition as brand new. I want something that'll last for years to come.

Build one yourself with wood and elbow grease, just like in the good old days where things didn't just break :P

I don't know about you, but I'm cheap and impatient :P I'd go with the "great acoustic guitar", but thats just me :)

I say the plain acoustic.
And when your 19 and employed, then get the better guitar :D

I'd wait to get the good stuff :P

I'd say wait, and drop lots of subtle hints to help get you money from relatives for all upcoming holidays. ;P

Exactly what I was going to say.

Whine to your Mum and Dad! They'll probably help out... if you haven't got really strict parents...

Actually, my brother built himself a guitar in woodshop class last year. It came out gorgeous.

I'd say save up. There's nothing more satisfying than saving up for your dream present and then finally getting it. :)
