What Did You Used to Believe as a Kid?

Wed Jun 15, 2005 1:57 am

Everyone has a story about when they were a kid they believed something completely random, crazy or just plain wrong.
For instance, I was so sure that it rained every single night. (Quite reasonable, since every morning the grass was wet. ;))
And I thought that every night after I went to bed, all the TV shows stopped. So I was always wondering why my mom and dad were still downstairs after I had gone up for bed.
I was also really positive that I was a cat, and I had friends who were cats with superpowers. (Like Star Cat, who had the power of the stars and the planets. And AA Cat, who had the power of words and magic. Haha, I was a creative kid. :P)

So what about you?

XD Oh the stories I could tell! I only have two that come to mind at the moment, though.

I used to believe that in movies, all the actors were little people that actually lived in the tape. That like... ran around and stuff to make the tape play on the TV. So I was afraid to watch the same tape more than once in the same night because I didn't want to make the little people tired.

I also used to think that we were kind of like Barbies, and invisible giants controlled our every single movement. <_<;; Please don't ask, I was like... five or six at the time.

When I was five I convinced myself that I was a male. I don't know how, either. O.o;

And I used to think that what happened on the TV was actually happening *somewhere*. I never knew where, I just knew. xP

And I thought that any music besides classical was evil. Hence why classical music was my absolute favorite at the time.

I used to do that too!! XD Except I actually looked up to look at the Giants...but I didn't see them.

I used to think everything has a life (and still want to think that...so I end up apologizing to my stuff toy if I kicked it off my bed during my sleep). That started when i was young and my mum was trying to persuade me to eat the peas...so then I put them in my mouth and my mum would go, "You know, when you chew it, the peas scream 'aaaahhh!! ahhhhhh!! ahhhh' "

And then for some reason i kept on eating them, trying to listen to them scream.

I used to believe that we look just like the animated Disney movies, with lines to show our outline. If I looked quickly enough, I was convinced I would be able to see a black pen mark outline my body, just like a cartoon. The only problem was, I was never quick enough to catch it.

I was also so sure that there was a magic doll out there that could walk and talk and play with me. I just needed to find it. And if I had a toyroom, the toys would play together. However, I had no toyroom so they never came alive.

Sometimes I thought I had this magic power of making myself feel cold. (Actually, I can still make myself feel cold and shiver whenever it gets too hot.)

My brother, Todd, filled my head with a lot of lies. And I believed em 0_o

Like, um, we were in the toilet paper aisle in the grocery store and we saw the colored toilet paper, and he told me that only the 'people that worked there' could buy it. I was about 3 at the time.

And once, he told me that if you had dreams, you had done something bad the day before.

And my Aunt May told me that once she saw her Barbies get up and walk around when she was in her bed. I had actually suspected that before, and I always tried to see them get up and walk after that. But I never could. I concluded that you had to make them think you were asleep by being really quiet and not hitting the side of your bed (I had this thing on the side of my bed, it was like two long pieces of wood, they rattled and stuff when you moved really slightly - they were there so I wouldn't fall out of bed like I tended to do back then)

For years and years, I used to think that our bodies were run by little mice sitting in chairs, eating doughtnuts and occasionally pressing buttons to make us do something.

Oh, and I have an imaginary friend called Henry who used to bring an imaginary puppy to school for me to play with. He also came on holiday with us, either in his little red car or a bottle of strawberry body lotion.

My brother used to tell me lies too when I was little.
I used to believe that after I went to bed and the lights were turned off, Gremlins used to party in the living room and if you came downstairs they'd eat you.

I used to believe babies were put together piece by piece, my parents keep telling me how I used to go through the cupboards looking for the different parts - arms, legs, etc etc.

I also used to believe that tattoos were just plain old stamps :P

I used to belive that all babies had to be cut out of the stomach to get out.

Also when I was younger, I was convinced that my toys come to life at night... I swear that I saw them move if I stared long enough :P

I used to believe that Santa Clause came through this little tiny mini-chimney we had. I don't even know what it was for, since we had no fireplace. I think it may have been to let off all the steam and smoke collected from the suction thing above the stove. Either way, I thought Santa would squeeze through there to get in.

That, or he'd go through the keyholes :P

When I was little, I was certain that someday the world would flip, and we'd all be able to walk around on our ceilings. And for some reason the furniture and everything else would stay on the floor.

I used to think you stopped breathing when you were sleeping.

Up until I was about 10, I thought that when we went from 1999 to 2000, we'd all turn into cartoon drawings, because it was such a big change.

Don't ask me where I got it from, but I swore it was real!

I used to believe that there are huge spiders under my bed waiting for me to fall asleep so that they can come out and eat me. :(
