RIP Richard Whiteley

Sun Jun 26, 2005 9:24 pm

Sir, I salute you.

Sun Jun 26, 2005 9:28 pm

When did that happen and how? :(

Sun Jun 26, 2005 9:29 pm

Just came on the news recently.

Was recovering from pneumonia, then they discovered a faulty heart valve, which only got replaced in the last couple of days.

Died aged 61...

It's a shame, because he was such a recognisable figure in British TV. And he seemed like a really nice bloke.

And creatures like Carol Vorderman get to live. Ugggh.

Richard Whiteley was the presenter of Countdown if my memory serves me right.

RIP Richard Whiteley!

'Tis a shame, 'tis a real shame...

'Ey, I don't think that we should be talking to people like that. Respect everyone. You don't have to like people, but you do have to treat them politely.

Thats terrible to hear!

and such a young death too..

Sun Jun 26, 2005 10:31 pm

That's terrible :( Rest in peace.

:(

Heard it on the radio before.

Bless him. So young...

Can't say I even know who he is so I'll just not mourn :P

Mon Jun 27, 2005 12:36 pm

I just heard on the radio.
My sister will be so sad, she adores countdown.
I'll miss his silly jokes.

Carol Vorderman doesn't deserve politeness. Ditto Linda Barker.

He's the 'jolly giant' from Channel 4. He was a very... normal person, I think. He didn't act all 'I'm a celebrity' like people like Ribbe Williams do, he was acted as though he was just a normal person, telling jokes and socialising on Countdown, a quiz show he presented.

I don't want to go into an argument with you, but you really should treat everyone politely. I may not think that, just as a random choice, Ixistant requires politeness, but if I ran around the forums shouting "Oh, damnit. Jim's dead. Why couldn't Ixi have died instead?" then that woiuld be considered flaming. Just because Carole Vordeman isn't a member of this forum, doesn't mean that it is automatically okay to flame her.

It's a great shame, he was one of the key faces of television and seemed like a really decent bloke. So young as well, and even though I knew he had been unwell in hospital it still came as such a massive shock. Someone I didn't know yet so familiar to me.

He'll certainly be missed not least (of course) by his family and partner, his best friend Carol, all the countdown crew and his vast legion of fans. And even by people like me that hardly ever watched his shows now a days. I hope he has fun making puns under that great clock in the sky :)

Mon Jun 27, 2005 6:28 pm

Matt: Sorry if you feel that way, but meh.

I'll miss that clock. And the music.
