Well, I've recently got a turtle as a gift from my friend, he said it eats this wierd corn poweder thing, so I tried giving it some. But it doesn't eat it. I've heard it eats lettuce... what else?

My tortoise eats vegetables and fruits. The type of vegetables depends on your tortoise preference.
However, yours is a turtle. But I guess they are all the same. They will eat when they are hungry.

Is it a turtle, or a tortoise? Theres a massive difference.
You should find out what species of turtle/tortoise it is before you try feeding it anything. If it's a baby... it may be in shock from the environment change.
What kind of tank set up do you have it in?

At the moment I dont really have a tank. But I'll be getting one soon, so right now, it lives in a little plastic candy box.

Perhaps it is in shock of envirement change...
The thing is, I think it's a turtle, but I didn't buy it myself and my friend didn't really tell me anymore about it.
And oh, it's really small, the length of the shell is about 3/4 of my thumb.

I just remembered something that is actually useful! Turtles are quite moody and if they get depressed will commit suicide by starving themselves to death (RIP my friend turtle, with the generic name of Speedy). Watch his/her behaviour closely.

I thought that was tortoises.

I know he was a turtle so I suppose both are suicidal depressive animals.

BAH! I hope that's not the case though. I tried peas, corn, carrots and lettuce... it doesn't seem to want to eat anything... I suppose I'll try some fruits next...

I used to have a baby snapping turtle. I would feed him these turtle food pellets I got at the pet store. Also be sure to clean the container that it's in every day. (Be sure to wash your hands well after handling him, because turtles are full of salmonella and make sure it has clean water bowl to swim/drink from.)

Does the turtle have red spots on the side of its head? If so, then it's a red-slider turtle. I once had three of them, and the only stuff I fed them was turtle food from PetsMart.
When you get a tank, make sure you have a place for them to swim and a place for them to sleep on land.

Can you take a picture of it? I could probably identify it for you if you could. Phone around to some pet stores in your area and see if theres anyone there who can identify it for you.
Since tortoises are a land going critter and turtles are... well not... i'd really suggest finding out what it is quickly. If it's a turtle it needs a proper place where it can swim. If it's a tortoise, you need to figure out what species it is so that you can feed it properly. Generally those store bought pellets are a good thing to feed them IF they're supplemented with other food. We fed our tortoise a variety of fruits/veggies (she LOVED pineapple. Loved it. She'd push out her other foods just so she could get to it. But it was only a treat thing), and our turtle eats the water pellets along with spinache, goldfish and crickets. Theres actually quite a difference in their diet.
But depending on the species of turtle/tortoise the diet can vary a lot.

My turtle used to eat mealworms and bugs from the petstore, and it grew up nicely. Until it got hit by a car. Boo.
