Memorable quotes?

Wed Aug 31, 2005 4:11 pm

What are some of your most memorable quotes? (notice: memorable, not favourite)

My friend just gave me something that says "Happiness is like a butterfly, if you try to catch it, it will elude you, but if you take ur mind off somewhere else, it will sit gently on your shoulders."

I don't really like that one, I mean... I try to find happiness in everything, and I'm still happy...

"Our strength is not in never falling, but getting up every time we do." Or something to that extent. I really like that, for some reason.

"Good luck and bad luck come and go like the tides of the sea..." Gives me a dreamy feeling.

"Cheerfulness is the core to a happy life." Too true.

I can't think of more at this moment, but I'll post more later.

Insults do nothing, but nothing says 'I hate you' like a punch in the face'

Or is this one for nice ones?

You will only be as sad as you allow yourself to be

Creeeepy! My wall calendar has an inspirational quote for every month, and that was July's. Exact quote, with credit:

"Happiness is like a butterfly: the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder." -- Henry David Thoreau

Mine is "All they can do is say "No", they can't eat you." It's from a Stephen King novel, though I can't remember which one.

You don't get to choose how you're going to die or when. You only get to decide how you're going to live now.

It's written on my shoe. Although I completely messed it up and had to check the shoe - but I got the general gist anyway.

If all yours friends jumped off a bridge, then you wouldn't have any.

Most likely will remember that one for the rest of my life.

Well, as long as you stay on the horizontal part of a bridge.

I have two favorite quotes:
"They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance."
Last words of US General John Sedgwick, before being shot

"The fool thinks he is wise, but the wise man doth know himself to be a fool.."
Shakespeare

"Before you criticise someone you should try walking a mile in their shoes...

...that way, when you do criticise them you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes :P "

Stupidity in a woman is unfeminine.

It's in the front of the book I have to read for my book report, Charms for the Easy Life.

If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man's life sorrow and suffering to disarm all hostility.

Ah yes, she says that was the exact quote. My friend sort of forgot it, actually =P.

And I just got reminded of some quote I read in a book. "Don't judge a man before you've walked two moons in his moccasins." Hehe, it's so amazing. The book, I mean. This is getting off topic, though, so whatever.

"There's only now. There's only here. Give in to love, or live in fear." ~ Rent

"There's a fine, fine line between together and not." ~ Avenue Q

"Nothing is too wonderful to be true." ~ Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Notice that my most memorable quotes come from musicals. :P

"In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart."
-Anne Frank

Very inspirational quote...I think about it when I'm feeling pessimistic.

Strive to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To be too wise for worry, too tolerant for hate, and too courageous to be fearful. In short, to be happy. - wherever Daniel got it from.

That's just... beautiful... wow...

We must not sink beneath our anguish... but battle on.

It's hard to wring your hands while you're rolling up your sleeves.

What's comin' will come, an' we'll meet it when it does.

Calves are easily bound and slaughtered, never knowing the reason why
But all those who cherish freedom, like the swallow, must learn to fly.

There are things worth dying for!

Recieve what cheer you may; the night is long that never finds the day.

I have no words - my voice is in my sword, thou bloodier tyrant than terms can give thee out.

What are the mem'ries we value so highly, that we keep alive in that flame?
What's the commitment to those who have died, that we cry out they've not died in vain?
We have come this far, always believing that justice will somehow prevail
This is our burden, this is our promise, and THIS is why we will not fail!

(If Peter, Paul and Mary knew how I was using this quote, though, they would wonder what they did wrong.)

Every man dies - not every man really lives.

Yeah, I breathe quotes.

I like these ones especially.

Some of those are from Harry Potter, aren't they? I seem to remember them vaguely...
