Backmasking...

Sat Sep 17, 2005 10:51 am

Apparently, if you play A certain section of Stairway to Heaven (Song by Led Zeppelin) you get satanic messages... At first, after being showed a particular site, I was completely freaked out and shocked. I showed it to others and I was told it is porbably untrue, so I believed them (In general, I am extremely gullable XP). The next day, I decided to try and see if I could play the song backwards myself (or possibly one of the other songs), and after my horrible singing of a particular britney spears song, I became completely shocked once again.

If you want to know what I am talking about, go here:
http://jeffmilner.com/backmasking.htm

It has many songs being played backwards. Please note it has some material not to suitable for a young audience (not like endless violence, only the messages on the backmasking aren't obviously going to be good messages...)

But yeah, It is freaky. If you are still sceptical, like I was, just turn it into a WAV and play it backwards. If you don't know how, use either a music converter program or alternatively go to iTunes and do it there (Edit, Preferances, import, settings then change to WAV. Next right click a song and click "convert selection to WAV")

Or, If you can't do that, or any other way of converting it, try sing some songs. Some of them are completetly impossible to sing (like Stairway to Heavan)... who knows why, but others are mildly possible...

I know this doesn't seem nice but the Pokemon Rap part made me laugh.

The Weird Al one does not suprise me in the slightess. And it's the most blatently clear one of them all.

Heh, Satan eats Cheez Whiz.

The Eminem one was pretty clear too :). Actually so was the Paul one. Pretty interesting. When I went to Panama for vacation, they were saying Shakira had a couple of things like this. The church there had a night we.re they would show the young kids they aren't making it up, there are messages hidden in the music they listen to etc. I didn't go, but would have wanted to hear what the service was like.

The hotel california one is just awesome. XD

And wow, so is the eminem one. I love that one. o.o;

Oh my, that stuff is still floating around? The whole play Stairway to Heaven, some of the Beatles' songs, etc. were all supposed to have "hidden" messages way back in the day (like when they were new! songs). I remember all that.

Basically, alot of it is just coincidence and nothing was ever intended by it. I know the Beatles came out and said that none of their lyrics meant anything played backwards.

Weird Al? He might just try to make it sound like it's saying something - his parodies are legendary. Why not do something of a play this song backwards parody too?

I tend to agree. With ever confused. Wierd Al was probably attentionally done as a joke, but some of the other stuff are likely just wierd conicendences.

I highly doubt it is a coincident. The fact that they just happen to come out as perfect sentances. Reverse any other song, and they don't really make much sense. Not a single word turns into another word backwards. The pokemon rap is probably a coicidence (And hilarous XD) but stairway to heaven is definatel not a coincident. I am still kinda confused how they got a word played backwards to make a completely different sound not ever remotely similar to that of it being reversed o.O...

anyway, The Anata, Daiteyo is very off. It doesn't sound very much like it is supposed to at all <_< . And where is there a message of Hillairy duff being a nazi! I am confused :(...

Terribly unlikely.

The Beatles one is very well known, and of course, on purpose. They may say it's a coincidence, but come on. There's no mystery, it's fairly easy to make a record sound like something else when it's played backwards.

Anything you have to see the words before you can make it out, however, is either someone really wanting it to be there, or a really bad go at backmasking. Whether on purpose to be more subtle or just shoddy work.

You've got to admit, some of them are a stretch.

Even when I know what they're supposed to sound like, I wouldn't give them a point.

Most of the Beatles ones I think work, with notable exceptions (John is totally saying Cranberry Sauce, for the record). Also the Britney one seemed to be the most clear, non-fake one.

That's what I meant by 'someone really wanting it to be there'.

Also, you can't really rely on what the writers/artists say for things like that. I mean, John Lennon and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds? What a liar. :P

but... but... Julian's picture. He can't be lying. John wouldn't lie to us.

Wouldn't he? Wouldn't he?
