I caught the tail end of a segment on the news today, and it has been proven that happy dogs make a sound that is comparable with laughter. Of course they don't go hehehe. They go Huh Huh Huh..a kind of happy panting that is different than normal panting. It has also been shown to be very effective to play recordings of dog laugher in shelters when dogs are whining or barking. This sound calms them down, or is at least interesting enough for them to stop and listen to it.
I did a search online and found a few links about this. Also it is show that rats, chimps and other happy animals can laugh too.
Long wav sound of dog laughing. It sounds like pants and snorts to me, exactly the same sorts of sounds my dog makes when playing though.

I am instantly reminded of Shaun Of The Dead.
"Alright. But dogs can look up!"

That's really cool, my dog makes noises like that when she's playing sorta, but it's hard to tell because I couldn't hear the file well...now I'm wondering if she's always laughing at me...maybe even right now...*listens*

My dog does that too when she's playing. And when she scratches herself she groans and does that, too, so she must be happy quite a lot.
