What is The Secret?

Wed Jan 11, 2006 8:01 am

Intruiging.

That's a big claim to make. It would be amazing if it turns out to be genuine.

Of course, being the cynic that I am, I am inclined to view it as a marketing ploy - an excellent example of viral marketing.

(Yes I realize the irony in that I'm being both the channel by which this supposed viral marketing propagates itself, and the cautionary voice in respect of it)

I think I have to agree. If it was actually a worldwide TV event, then TV stations all over the world would have mentioned it.

Another forum I belong to, Unfiction has been talking about this for quite some time ^^. Its a viral marketing/alternate reality game forum.

wow. that seems really amazing. it's like something in a dan brown book. i'm starting to doubt it since dan brown actually has no book about it, and it seems like an awesome topic. but i tihnk i'll watch it. or at least let you other PPTers watch it and them tell me the Secret. but i don't think it will have much relevance. since if everyone was conscious of its effects, they wouldn't care about it anymore.
but the fact that knowledge of this secret somehow allowed all those people to thrive and surivive the war and depression is really amazing, if its true. watch it turns out to be a movie with that title. that so seems like the type of thing it would be

Thats what I thought too, when I watched it.

Well, I originally saw it in an ad on tv - forgotten which station. Not that I watch tv at all, must've been passing by or something.

I immediately thought it would be an alternate reality game and that still seems the most plausible thing. Yet it would be an unprecedented one - the claim is much more profound than any ARG I've heard of.

I think the thread you mentioned gives a more detailed treatment than I can provide.

I thought so too, until they said "television event", which is not usually something said about movies, even made-for-TV ones.

Whatever it is... I'm watching. I hope it's something awesome on the History channel or something.

Ever since I signed up for that, I've been getting these annoying emails every day. From what they say, it seems like more of a motivational thing than an actual secret. Something like "self-esteem."

Oh, God. Watch it turn into an advertisement for self-help books.

It's like Tony Robbins, Dr. Phil, and the author of Five People you Meet in Heaven who I won't bother looking up right now suddenly mutated into a giant, three-headed self help monster.

Actually, you could be right. Some think its actually a form of self-help called the 'Master Key System' which believes that with true belief and visualization anything can happen.

Wow. They sure know how to play things up. I'm waiting for something anti-climatic.

Upon seeing this I immediately thought 'must be something ridiculous'

I am betting on 'Hope', 'Self-esteem', 'Jeeeeeeeesus!' or 'Viagra'.

I came across this idea too. The question is why would anyone want to revive a self-help idea that has been in publication for decades and has never been generally recognized as earth-shattering?

Well that doesn't quite fit the 'profoundly changing the world' claim. Otherwise I like it :P
