I joined in the Etnies design contest at the last minute with a design that I made in just a couple of minutes, due to lack of time and sleep (I had gotten of a 12 hour plane-flight that day and was terribly jet-lagged). I had totally forgotten about it when a friend told me I made the top 5!
Design #1 (with the purple/pink stars) is mine. Oh, and rather than turning this topic into a shameless spam post, I'm not going to ask you to vote for me, although of course you may do so if you like my design. *cough*

Wow, that's excellent! I see you're in second place (you're second to a design I really dislike, the one that's currently in first is, I think, one of the worst designs; actually I don't really like any of them except for yours and design 3, but that's an entirely different matter) and I hope you win it. :)

Hmm. I just went to look at the page and the total number of votes suddenly shot up from 300+ to 600+ within a minute or so, and they all went to design 3. "Cheating" and "bot" were to first words that came to mind.

They come to mind for me, too. I remember something like this happening on a different site where Yukio was competing for a place, and someone got 2000 votes in a few hours.

Is there any way to contact the people running the contest? Hopefully they catch it out, though.

I doubt they will do anything about it, since it says "You may vote as many times as you would like for the contest finalists below until voting ends on Jan. 31, 2006.".
Technically, you could delete your cookie and vote again, and do that a thousand times over. I'm not going to do that though (and I hope no one does that while voting for me), since I don't want it to turn into a cheating contest.

According to My Name is Earl, karma will get them eventually.
