I am reminded of the commercial where the actor that played Captain Sisko was just yelling 'it is the year 2000, where are the flying cars?'
I know millions of these have been proposed over the years. I also know that we are nowhere near getting a flying car in every garage, but here is one of the latest attempts. It looks... impossible to realize, but a sleak design.
Wings retracted.

I would so love a flying car. *sigh*
That picture actually looks really good! And apparently they're actually going to have made one by 2008!! Cool! ^.^

It will carry two people and luggage on a single tank of premium unleaded gas.
Oh great, premium unleaded. We're trying to find a way to
stop paying a lot for gas and to stop using gas; this just makes us pay more.
Can you just imagine what the traffic would be like? *shudders*

We already get into fatal crashes on the ground, I wonder what glory and wonder vehicles in the air can bring!

Heh, imagine running out of fuel mid-flight. At lesat you don't die when you have to push your car along the high-way. Don't get me started on the fuel-stations. ._. Not to mention one of the wings going out while you're high in the air.. Basically just like a plane really, except the skies would be full of them.
I don't think the concept would work at all, really. There's practically no way to organize traffic in the sky (though I suppose there is a lot of space). Roads work on the ground, but I can only imagine what happens when something like that actually comes along.

Not to mention you can't stop in the air, you can barely steer, and you would have to take off/land everywhere you go.

Well you know, when you wanted to land, you could just crash into something.

Right. Like the saying goes: Landing is the easy part. Flying is the hard part
Or as Buzz Lightyear says: It is not flying. It is falling, with style!
Indiana Jones: Land, yes. Fly, no.

Computers and fully automated flights.

A computer's mistake would then make it probably more dangerous than a human's error. Traffic lights malfunctioning in a single area is enough chaos as it is,.imagine if your path is determined by a computer that makes a malfunction.
