Yay! Europe!

Wed Jul 05, 2006 4:37 pm

Tomorrow I am going on a 16 day vacation to Europe! (Technically the British isles) I've been planning this for over two years. My sister and I are going with some people from my school, it's a club thing. It's sort of my graduation present since it's so expensive. I'm going to England, Ireland, and Scotland. Ireland first, then Scotland, then England. I'm so excited, I've never been out of the country except for Canada and I've never been overseas! (Hawaii doesn't count :P) I hope I don't stand out too much as an American o_o. I also hope I have enough money, I know the conversion rate is bad for us...like $1 USD = .5 pound? And isn't Ireland's currency different from England and Scotland? Oh well, I'll get used to it. I'll bring back lots of pictures!

Time to finish packing now!

Oh wow! Have lots of fun, and yes, I do expect to see tons of pictures. =D Ooooh, Ireland. I've always wanted to go there.
Where in England are you going? Are you going to be in London? (Heh, that's another place I've not-so-secretly been dying to visit.)

I'm sure the next 16 days will bring you much joy! And may the memories last forever. :)

Which is why it's more fun to tour the countryside of mainland Europe.

The Euro FTW. :D

I think the dollar is about 65p now?

Ooh, gosh, i was wrong! It's only 54p...gone down! I wouldn't spend much there if I were you :P

Ireland use the Euro, which has a much better exchange rate. 78 cents to the dollar.

You're not visiting Wales? What's wrong with us are we the terrible part of the Uk?

No, you're the part with the sheep that never shut up. >.>

England is very cool indeed :D The weather is so unpredictable, so make sure that you have stuff for all weathers (and carry an umberella at all times!)

Things that you MUST try in England:

- British Tea
- Fish & Chips
- Jelly Tots
- Roast Dinners

Have fun! :D Where abouts are you going?

Wales? Um...I'm not the one who planned it, it's an ACIS thing, they make the plans and stuff. I think we're mostly going to the really touristy places.

Let's see...

Ireland - Killarney, Dublin
Scotland - Edinburgh
England - York, Warwick Castle, London

Also, the flights aren't direct. I fly to Washington D.C. and have to wait in the airport for 3 hours. (Too bad we have to stay in the airport :/) From there, we go to London, and from there, we go to Ireland.

I haven't been on an airplane since August 2001 so it'll be different...

Edit: Oops...York is in England? :P I wouldn't know XD.

York isn't in Scotland. It's English.

When you're in Scotland, try to visit the Parliment (we need to get the money back somehow!), Our Dynamic Earth, the Edinburgh Dungeons and the Castle. Also, try to get to Glasgow, as it has fantastic shops and a few touristy places too.

PS. Britain, although it's in Europe, doesn't really count as 'Europe'. It's cold, wet and miserable, and we don;'t use the same money as the rest of the continent.

Pity just Killarney and Dublin. You should drop by Wicklow in Ireland.... <3 My favourite place in the whole wide world. -sigh- it's been ages since I was there

Dude, what the hell you on about? Britian is in Europe. We're in the EU as well as being part of the continent of Europe. There are other European countries that don't use the Euro (Hungary doesn't, it uses the terribly weak forint) and that are wet and miserable.

But lets face it. Us Brits are European outcasts. We're the country tht the other countries are nice to when they're talking to them, but behind there backs they're talking badly about them.

Only because we're total idiots towards the rest of Europe.

It doesn't mean we're not in the continent. We have yet to declare a British Continent. I think it would annoy the ROI for a starter.

I think you'll find I never said that we weren't in the continent of Europe. What I meant was that Britain is not spiritually part of Europe, mainly because they hate us.

Ooh, Ireland. I've always wanted to go there. My sister is going there in the fall.

Actually, waiting in the D.C. airport for 3 hours is better than arriving at the Atlanta airport and having to rush to terminal E (international one) from terminal B, with only about 1-2 hours to spare. (Sounds like a long time, but it's not when you have to go through customs on the way back <_<)

Come down to Essex and visit me and Paul! *gives Paul a noogy* He can be nice when he wants to :3
