Got a new dog

Tue Aug 15, 2006 6:01 pm

Well, as some of you know, I lost my beloved shepherd Luke this past March to liver cancer (at least it was fast). And... last night we came home with another shepherd, named Karla.

Karla is a special needs dog. She has the early onset of hip dysplasia, but is a beautiful little girl. She had been a show dog, and was going to be a breeding dog, but with hip dysplasia, it would be unethical to breed her (as her pups would most likely get it as well). She is a gorgeous little girl, and is about 65 lbs of love.

Karla has already found a way to get comfy in our home. Unfortunately this is brief as she is still spending the first couple days in a crate as she gets used to the noise and routine.

It's not difficult to get her to smile either.

Karla does have a lovely classical German Shepherd face.

What a pretty girl.

Our eight year old shepherd Gretal, is less impressed by Karlas appearance and is afraid of Karla. Karla likes to bark and growl whenever Gretal gets too close to her crate (it's her crate afterall! It must be defended!). Gretal doesn't feel that Karla understands that Gretal only wants to be friends.

Gretal does however understand that looking fashionable is very important, and that hats like this are a key Canadian icon.

Karla and Gretal are beautiful, Inrun! I've always loved the look of German Shepards. I've never had one though, but that's no different from every other dog I thought were pretty, lol.

Oh, and Gretal's hat is way cool. I bet almost every other dog in the neighborhood is jealous of it. :P

German Sheppards have always terrified me, but your dogs oddly look cute.

A beautiful smurf. I used to have two german shepherds, they are excellent dogs, I hope you have a great time with her :)

Shepherds are gorgeous dogs, a pity they have a habit as a breed to develop hip problems.
My cousins both have shepherds, such great dogs. Have fun!

I don't see your cat beating up a shepherd. Especially not the kind my cousin has. Heck, it was 60 pounds as a puppy.

Actually I have seen that with my German Shepherd. He was at least a 60 lb pup vs an 18+ yr skeleton of a cat. I think it was more that my puppy-poo is very goofy that way. He still lets cats boss him around. It is very cute.

Awww! She's adorable! I love German Shephards. They're very licky dogs I've found. They'll like your face all over and leave your face a wet slobbery mess XD I've been in contact with quite a lot and friends of the family own one called Jas, short for Jasper. He wouldn't make a good guide dog though as he's scared of almost everything! He runs away from me and my family when he's first seen us and it usually takes a good few hours for him to pluck up the courage to come close to us, bless.
