Ow...

Wed Jul 14, 2004 6:32 pm

I just got my rubber bands on my braces (If you don't know, they are small things that connect your top jaw to your bottom, I can't even yawn :x ) and my mouth is aching. Tylenol didn't help, and I can't eat. We have no soup and I ate beans but I don't know what else and I am starving. I can't even eat a cut up pepper, it hurts so bad.

Any help?

I have those as well. The pain will eventually go away, but you can try taking some pain relievers for now (find better ones if you can). I suggest eating soft foods, like ice cream and applesauce. If you have to chew something, eat it with the side of your mouth that hurts the least.

Oh, that'll hurt for ages.
Yup.

Don't take tylenol, take Aleve or Advil - both are relaxants which will help better than Tylenol, which is a straight painkiller.

A combination of Neurofen and Panadol did it for me when I had braces, be warned, this'll occur over and over again...

When I first got braces, Ibuprofen worked for me. I'm just glad I don't have to have the rubber bands. Anyways, eating soft foods, taking Ibuprofen, and using a number like orajel helps too. Just don't put too much orajel on or you won't be able to speak. xD

I remember those, I hated those. I had to wear them for a year and a half. Tylonel won't work. You need a painkiller like Advil and you can also try an anti-inflammatory drug like ibprofin(sp?).

I went for ice cream, panadol and sleep. Rubber bands are the devil...

Ugh, I remember those. I originally had to wear them for two months, but they put them on the wrong way the first time...

Anyway, they'll hurt for a while, until about the time you have to switch the size of the bands. :P You'll get used to them after a while, but at the beginning I would suggest something to chew. It keeps your teeth busy. I chose the wrong option of just bearing it, and that isn't too fun.

But what is? Shooting them around your room. I haven't worn them in two years, and I'm still finding them in my carpet. :P

Does it really hurt that much? My sis is getting braces on atm and she says it's really more uncomfortable than hurt.

It'll eventually hurt quite a bit. They mainly hurt while chewing though, and that's why many people suggested soft foods.

Crap. I have to get braces in two weeks. >.<

Err... Suck on an ice cube? I'm not sure, but I was told that that helps to numb the pain for a bit.

You'll probably try to crunch the ice cube...

You normally get the rubber bands towards the end. I have had braces for 3 years this october. I am getting them off in december (Hopefully)

I'm not sure how to cure it, I didn't seem to have any problems with it. Oh yes I did, it looked weird because mine went across  if you can endure it, then that would be great :D i'm not sure about pain killers, do they really do something? *hmmm...*

Hope you'll get them off soon :D the more you wear it, the improvement on your teeth would be faster. I had to wear them for 2 months instead of one because I didn't put them on for most of the time.
