Knossis Magazine - Do you think it could work?

Fri Oct 13, 2006 12:21 am

Hi guys! Ok you may have seen this image floating around

Image

Basically what it is, is a fake mock-up I did to see how realistic it looked eh? Another magazine was used as a reference to see how they designed their front-covers, so of course it's very derivative, but the actual edition one will have to be completely re-done.

A website has been created for the magazine so far (http://www.knossis.com) and I plan to make it a community magazine - which empowers the readership to directly shape the magazine's evolution by writing the articles that appear in the magazine itself and spreading the word through viral marketing - hopefully jumping into a niche segment and amassing a cult following.

It allows this by empowering the readers to go out and meeting their local artists and fashion designers whether it be at local markets or their local area. (Great photo opportunities haha) As it is also on the net currently, it will also allow commercial acts etc. to be contacted etc. etc. etc. from a brand name that aspires to be associated with a publication that provides an intelligent, interesting slant on the topic.

Do you guys think this idea is viable?

One of the ideas I thought would work very well was having articles on the latest net crazes, for example the free hugs campaign featured a band called Sick Puppies and I've sent them an email to get in contact with them for an article write-up. I've also been invited to fashion shows which one I'll be going to tonight and I've even had some fashion designers offer me free stuff and musicians give me free CDs to review them!

Anyway, I'm looking for people interested in getting involved with the project with me - namely writers for the mean time - and I'll of course, be paying the writers $15 USD (it's a start up magazine so of course I can't pay too much) for a full-page article.

This is a call for people who would like to meet celebrities, get involved in an exciting new project of its kind, get free stuff, and some work experience.

Anyone interested? Leave your thoughts on this topic eh?

Hehe... I... don't... know...

Great! The first thing to do is find a topic matter that you think is interesting whether it be a band you heard about on MySpace etc. and contact them directly telling them you're wishing to write an article about them for the inaugral launch of a new magazine called Knossis. (or a fashion designer etc.) Then away you go. Make sure you also ask for some high resolution photos in case their article gets selected for the front cover.

Ask if they would like extra promotion in the form of giveaways or competitions in the magazine by sending us a couple of copies of their album, EP etc.

Otherwise, if they want some promotion on the net, ask them to send over MP3 versions of their songs and videos and we'll stream it on the relevant pages.

I think this is a way cool idea, Yukio! I'd definately order a subscription. ^-^ It sounds really interesting.

So, like... you could get one of the local actors/actresses who played a main part in a local play (at a theater-ish sort of thing... more than a school?), interview them, and have a chance of getting it in? o-O;; Sorry, but this part's confusing me. XD

Yes of course - however there's a fine line between the average actor/actress... or someone who you think is going to create waves. There must be something compelling/interesting. For example, the people I've been meeting at fashion shows have VERY unique pieces.

Think of what the reader will want to read.

To start a magazine purely based on the fact you want your face on the front of a magazine...how long would it last?

Fri Oct 13, 2006 3:43 am

I'll be Editor-In-Chief, I already am at my school's newspaper :D

That or fashion, celebrity gossip, horoscopes, tv/film, music, whatever in those general areas. :D

While that would be nice - actually I stated in the first post that it was just a mock up I was doing to see how real I could make it.

Sounds good - as stated previously, I'm looking for writers currently to make the first issue to see how it fares, and then if it all goes well and there look to be a second issue in the works, then positions will be officially announced.

I know, I read the post strangely enough. If I thought you had already made it I would have said 'to have started' rather than merely To start which indicates potential.

Ah hah! But when you say "To start a magazine with your face on the cover..." implies to the reader that the intention for the beginning the magazine is solely for that purpose.

Anyways, great news people! I went to a fashion show tonight, and had a talk with one of the designers to feature in an article in the magazine. We talked a bit and I told him about the magazine and ...

He agreed to design a one-off piece (dress, frock etc.) for a magazine competition winner! Value of $295!

I'll get photos up of the fashion show as soon as I can. Some amazing stuff there tonight.

Perfect! Well for the first edition, I'm looking for articles on music/bands so I'll copy paste what I posted for Marcus:

Otherwise, we'd love a feature/article/review on a movie such as "High School Musical" etc. but something more recent eh? Also, if you're doing reviews, make sure it's not just an average review but has an original slant... consider questions such as why does it work... why it wouldn't work... who is it pitched to etc.

Perfect Emma! See the above :) And you don't have to be from Oz to be in it :)

I'm not seeing any rebuttal there...that's exactly what I've been saying :P
