Fancy dress ideas?

Thu Nov 16, 2006 5:14 pm

Hai!

I need fancy dress ideas.

My friend Emma's 18th party is at the end of next month, and it is themed "Fairytales and Legends". We have to come in costume.

I can always fall back on just going as a fairy, but any better, different ideas? I can always make a costume...

Well, if you don't mind keeping the firends, you could cosplay.

...No. Party shops probably have something that would work; my school has an annual Mideival (yargh, spelling) Christmas concert, and many people just get dresses from party shops.

Or you couid go as some sort of warrior princess and run around with a sword. You can find good cheap swords.

You could mod an already existing costume..

My sister and her boyfriend went to a costume party as Romeo and Juliet. The costume she wore was actually a "Spiderella" dress with the webs cut off. It was still a long dress with those drapy arms and a bodice. She did her hair up and it looked really good. I never would have guessed what the costume actually was to start with.

Step one: Get bunny girl costume
Step two: Add fluffy white glove or mittens
Step three: Cover said gloves in red blood like substance
Step four: Perhaps cover self in red blood like substance
Step five: You are an anthropomorphised Killer Rabbit from the Holy Grail.

Could do angel?
Proper Angel I mean, not the namby pamby dudes, so, Angel of death, Angel of mercy, stuff like that?

Basicly said to be incredibly beautiful beings but with a dark side.

Or a Fallen, Abbaddon (Angel of the Abyss) is a nice example as he is the achetypal fallen (Black wings etc etc).
Or a Seraphim as it's an 18th?
They fell for being a bit excessive in what they did.

And I have no idea why I have angels on the brain, but atleast it's not a Lich.

It's stretching the concept, but I think a mythical creature would be a good way to go. Something along the lines of a dryad/naiad would be easy; there are lots of other part-human creatures(though none pop to mind, but my mind is in need of an upgrade) who would be interesting and recognizable by costume. A phoenix costume would be a lot more work--but the end result could be really gorgeous.
Barring that, there are some women from the King Arthur stories who could provide room for creativity, because the stories are so old and have been told so many times that there's not a set-in-stone image for Morgan le Fay or the Lady of the Lake.

...

I'm not sure whether that idea is horrifying or brilliant!

I don't have existing costumes to adapt, btw.

Yeah! Sphinxes are cool. I made a sphinx costume last year for a Latin project. It was pretty easy. I got some faux fur from a craft store and made a tail, slippers for my feet, and mittens for my hands, and then made what I thought were some pretty spiffy wings out of gold foam core board and loads of feathers that I glued on with gold glitter glue. My mother helped me make straps to put my arms through so that I could wear them easily. Then I just wore some brown corduroy pants and a brown shirt. Everyone in my class loved it :D And I got a really good grade.

Woooooooooow, a phoenix costume would be awesome! Go with that! A long sparkly dress in red/orange/gold/pink (like, lots of opaque fabric in feather/triangle shapes in varying colours around the bottom and edges) with long wings (either, like Apricus foamcore feather ones, or just a long opaque shawl covered with feathers) and lots of body and face glitter...

*goes to make picture*

Hehehehe, and now I've decided to make the costume myself for my 16th next year. But anyways, this is what I was thinking-

So yeeeah... don't forget to post pictures of you in the costume (whatever it ends up being) :D
