Anything and everything goes in here... within reason.

Oh yeah, I've done this before. I think we did it one year in science class before we did the real thing.

I am sure glad that I never had to do that as I know that I would thrown up or fainted if I had to disect a frog in school.

No dissecting for us Scottish children. Good thing too. Most people in my class would faint!

xD
I'm glad theres internet alternatives, though I don't have to do it since I'm homeschooled.

for one of our modules for uni we had to dissect out the sciatic nerve from a frogs leg, keeping the calf muscle attached to the nerve. its funny to poke the end of just the frog leg because it will kick, teehee

Why does the sciatic nerve keep following me around. >.< (Long story.

Anyways, in middle school apparently a couple of days before dissection a teacher cooked some frog legs (not the ones used in the dissection mind you) and the people who ate them said it tasted like chicken. Yuck is what I say.

i dont understand how so many things can "taste just like chicken" - particuarly as you wouldnt have two of these things and say they tasted the same!

I think I'm crazy for actually being really engrossed by that virtual disection! I was like "woah, this is too cool!"

*is nostalgic* I remember Froguts back when the frog dissection was totally free - the real one, not the demo... And when it was unknown... The good old days...
Back on topic, I somewhat forced my school to buy the Froguts dissection program for me. I refused to dissect pigs and froggies... they're too cute! It makes me sad... So I sat and knitted instead.

I remember we used Froguts (back when it was free) to practice before we did the real thing.
Whatever your feelings are on dissection, there are some things you just can't learn by looking at a picture. Dissection gives you that rare firsthand experience that is missing in the modern science classroom.
In 9th grade, we dissected a frog to practice before dissecting a rat. The weird thing about the rat was that the formaldehyde had turned its fur yellow. The entire hallway smelled sickly sweet and you couldn't walk through there without getting a headache. We wore surgical masks while we did it. Still, I'll never forget the experience. We even had contests to see whose rat had the longest intestines and stuff. It was really cool. For the most part, rats are extremely similar to humans. Dissection is an excellent way to learn about the human body as well.
I love how that entire paragraph was about 10 short, declarative sentences. I'm too tired to write well XD

Heh we dissected a horse's eye in physics which was fun

In biology we disected a bunch of things. We got to disect a frog (and these were HUGE frogs), star fish, earthworms, cradads, rats and pigs. Everything was big, it was great. There was a person in my group who couldn't stand to cut the thing, so I did all the cutting. It really was a valuable expierence.

I remember dissecting things in biology in 6th grade (worm) and 9th grade (frog, pig). It was probably the worst day of the year. I do not enjoy cutting open animals for any reason, and I honestly didn't learn anything from it. I wish that science classes would let you do a report or something like that if you're against cutting open animals. My school would only let you opt out for religious reasons.

You should have complained bout it, cause they cannot force you to do it. I think its a law. xD
