AmeriCorps/Peace Corps.

Hello my lovlies.
I'm really interested in joining the AmeriCorps, which is a volunteer program similar to the PeaceCorps, only it's localized in the States.
It's been a stressful decission, and if all goes well, I'll be applying very soon and crossing my fingers, doing ancient dances and making bribes with Leprachauns in hopes of being accepted.
Has anyone here been in the AmeriCorps or Peace Corps? I want to hear stories of people's experience, since I've only heard a few. (Including my AWESOME teacher's. He is the leading person who has helped me out with this.) Or just, has anyone else thought of joining?

I can guarantee that your help will be largely unappreciated.
While you will most certainly not suffer the same attention as my father and be shot at, mortared and generally reviled (Such is the point of Army peace-keepers I assume) you will not be appreciated.
But it will be worth knowing that you're doing good, and the few who will be thankfull.
