Pasta, Pistols, and Passion!

Sat Mar 17, 2007 11:12 am

So I am very excited.
I'm in a murder mystery party taking place on March 31st.
My cousin and his long-time girlfriend are hosting it, so some of my family members are participating.
My role is the clairvoyant, and my name, cleverly, is Clair Voyant.
I am going to receive a booklet when I arrive, but this was the short character blurb I received.

Rosi Roni is the wife of the dead guy mafia boy by the way.

Microsoft Word Document wrote:Clair Voyant [Non-Suspect]
Rosa Roni's best friend and astrology advisor. Clair's talents include the ability to communicate with the spirit world and see into the future.

***Costume Suggestion: Clair wears a gypsy-style gown with excessive makeup. She talks with a husky voice.

First of all, what is a "husky" voice?
My mom said mysterious, so that's what I am basically going to do.

I raided my closet today and made a costume that consisted of:
A sparkly fuchsia vest-type thing, a light blue cami, a just-below-the-knee gauzy white kinda-sparkly skirt, green chinese slippers. I also am wearing blue, green, purple, and silver mardi gras beads, silver bangles, big silver hoop earrings, and one of those thin scarves, folded in half and tied around my head. It has spots on it. :]
I am happy because I didn't have to buy a thing!

So here is a really badly drawn 10 second picture of the outfit, just basically showing you what it looks like all together.

My makeup is going to consist of purple eyeshadow, fading upwards to green, with blue on the bottom lid line and into the corners.
It has to and will look dramatic, and I love playing with my eyeshadows. :] As for the rest of my face, probably not much, as all focus I want on my eyes. Maybe some cover up if I have a pimple that day or something..
I'll probably paint my nails silver, unless you guys suggest a better colour.

I'm so excited, I love to act, and I've never done anything like this.

Okay so suggestions on the outfit? Who has done these parties before? And any other tips on protraying my role correctly?

It's a deeper, breathier kind of voice.

But yeah Fiddelysquat basically nailed the description.

I'll see if I can dig out a picture of when my mom was a gypsy for Halloween (I was a Dementor from Harry Potter that year :P) She had a pretty good costume that might give you some ideas.

Also, if you've ever seen anything with a gypsy, a sort of forigen accent or whipery voice is good, like Fidds said. Congrats on the role--I'm sooo jealous!!

(I'll have to dig a while to find the pictures, but I'll send them to you if and when I find them)

That sounds like a fun activity to be apart of!

It seems completely identical to the game my parents got me a long time ago called "A Night of Murder" or something; people had to dress up and they had roles and read off their own booklets and what not.

We (My friends) didn't dress up, but it was fun nonetheless.

Here's a good example of a husky voice...

Ooh, that does sound like fun.
And I like your outfit -- and your ten second drawing (I need to PM you about that...XD)

And as for a husky voice (which everyone's beat me to it, but...), I immediately think of Johnny Cash or Josh Turner. Really really deep voices. XD
