*touches arm* OW!

Wed Jul 21, 2004 1:36 am

Me, my dad, and my mom went to Lake Travis today with our two dogs, Chloe and Spike. We were there about 6 hours at Pace Bend Park, which is a great park. Leash-free too. :P My arms are REALLY sunburned, they're as red as cherries. x.X I put some aloe vera stuff on, but it's not helping. -_- Bah.

So, anyone have any home remedies or whatnot to help my sunburn not hurt? Just so you know, I don't peel :P

Lotion works wonders for burns. Cool baths are nice as well.

Cool baths, they seem to soak the heat out.. Or something.
I really think this is just in my mind, but I find eating oranges helps my sunburn.
Theres something I always do with sunburn, but seeing as I'm burnt right now, I couldn't remember if my life depended on it.

I'd take an Icepack, put it on my sunburn, and do something time-consuming.

Do you have Calamine lotion? That works pretty well, but you have to be careful not to get it all over the place when it's dried. Wetting a towel and putting it on your arms helps too.

Hope it gets better for you in the next few days.

Yeah, lotion helps. A very obvious thing to do is not touch it if you can help it, even if it means wearing shirts with shorter sleeves.

Same thing I was going to say, I got sunburned some weeks ago on the back of my neck, calamine lotion really stops the irritation and itching.

Calamine lotion is good, also you can now get Aloe Vera lotions with novacaine mixed in. Novacaine is a topical anaesthetic, it works by cutting blood supply to nerves and thereby reducing pain sensations. It's good stuff, and the Aloe Vera is a good long-term soothing gel.

If you can find it, jewel weed is a natural remedy for itching and burning. Native Americans used it to treat poison ivy exposure. I don't know where Lake Travis is, but if its in the southeastern US, jewel weed runs rampant along moist creekbanks. Of course, if you have the aloe vera, stick with that, since it's a more concentrated remedy.

Aloe vera is a good option, just brutalise any growing nearby and squeee the stuff onto your arms.

Family Cure here, and since I recently burnt my arms and nose I used it and been parents use to do it as as we were kids.

Cold used Tea bags, the regular black tea. If you don't drink tea just put a bunch in hot water to seep for 2 minutes (it brings out the tanni acid which soothes burns). Throw them in the fridge over night or freezer for a half hour to an hour, make sure they're still dripping wet when you do this.

slap on and re-cool/rewet and reuse them.

and of course the lotions suggested above do help.

Aaargh... I HATE sunburn.
Keep the area well-moisturized, and put something cool on it. Not cold... that'll increase the tissue damage. Just cool. A few degrees lower than room temperature.

I live in central Texas, so I don't know if we have it here. We do have a creak nearby though...

I'll also see if we have any calamine lotion, since I've tried two different types of aloe vera lotion and it's not helping. <.<

You might have a problem with the jewel weed, then.

Ow ow ow ow ow. All that ever helps for me is to go swimming. I don't get sunburned usually though. I was at camp, outside much of the time, and didn't use sunscreen the whole time. I didn't get a single sunburn, although I did get a nice tan.

So much for Derek Lowe and Curt Schilling's anti skin cancer campaign.
