How Should I ask this girl to prom? (ive got a list!)

Sat Apr 21, 2007 2:55 am

Allright, so here's the dealio.

The girl I want to ask to prom is somebody ive known for 3 years. I can say that we've had crushes on eachother for all 3 years, but it wasnt until the past week when we were forced to go on a trip together that we actually got a chance to hang out. Shes really funny, and likes my sense of humor, and we are going on a first date type of thing in a couple of days. We aren't dating, just trying this out. SO. I was to plan ahead and figure out how I should ask this girl to prom. Which one?

1) Take her out to Chinese food, and have her receive a pre-arranged fortune cookie with a "Will you go to prom with me? -Weezel" fortune inside.

2) Leave two rocks in her front yard one night. One is pretty big (A good 25 pounder than you use two hands to carry) and one is like a little pebble you can carry in your pocket.
Leave a note saying "Yeah, I'm asking you to prom. So, if you accept, please let me know by bringing me back this little stone at school today. If you choose to turn me down, please let me know by bringing me the other rock."

3) I'm GREAT friends with the people who do the announcements at our school every morning. I could have an announcment saying "The final announcment is from Weezel, and he just wants to ask Britney if she'd go to prom with him. Britney, if you see weez in the hallways, please let him know!" (However, we are actually in the same class during announcements, so she'll be at one end of the room starting directly at me, who is sitting at the other end of the room. We face eachother all day long. Would this show my funny/daring/creative side, or is it bad since it puts her in a position and has everybody hear it?

I vote for the rocks idea. It's extremely cute and creative. I've never heard anything like it before! I would say yes to just about any guy who did that for me.
The fortune cookie is cute, but I have seen that before.
And the announcement thing might be embarrassing for her, although it would be hard for her to say no after that. :)

I say go with the fortune cookie idea. My reasoning is this: with the fortune cookie, you're right there, and it's personal. The rocks thing...well, you wouldn't be there. That means she might not see the note(it could be ruined by dew/rain, blown away, etc.) and you also wouldn't get to see her response right away. I like to see people's immediate response, you know?
The public announcement and rocks both have a coercive element that I dislike. With the PA, you'd be putting her on the spot, which might make her feel pressured to say yes without being allowed to decide for herself. With the rocks, there's sort of a cockiness--that you think she can only say yes, and the idea of saying no would be laughable.
However, if you consider these possibilities and decide that she'd enjoy the rocks as a joke(especially if you guys become very close romantically) or the public aspect of the announcements, those might go over better than the fortune cookie. It would really be a matter of personal opinion. Just make absolutely sure about the announcement one, if you choose it. She might not like that sort of attention. You could possibly make it into a bit of a code, or something, if you think she'd like that--something along the lines of "A certain Weezel[or other nickname/in-joke] would like to know if a certain [insert nickname/in-joke referring to the lady in question] would like to go to prom with him." Only people who know those nicknames would get it, taking away much of the public scrutiny aspect.

Yeah, definitely go with the fortune cookie idea. :) Although the rocks one is pretty good too. I think the PA announcement is too public. :P

I like the rocks, and although it does seem a bit cocky, if you're close, then... it's a really great idea.

I'd say fortune cookies is the best option.

Don't go with the Announcement. It'd put her on the spot and if she turned you down, everyone would know about it.

I like the rocks idea but what if she doesn't see the note?

I think the fortune cookie is the best way to go personally. It's cute.

I vote fortune cookie, although make sure you get the right one :P

The announcement thing is way too public, she'd be right on the spot and it would not be a good situation.

What if the note blows away? It would seem a little cocky too. But other than that, I like it.

I like the sound of the fortune cookie option. It's cute and I definitely think it will make her smile and say "Of course!" ^^

The fortune cookie sounds great, but you might want to try a less flat-out message, e.g.,
"Great fortune follows those who go to the prom with Weezel"

I would say the fortune cookie, because its simple yet so sweet and meaningful. She'll be touched.

The announcements is too open, she'd be pressured and may not actually like it, depending.

The rocks isn't too safe, and you don't get to see her reaction when she sees it, it'd be nice to see her reaction when you ask her too yah.

I like the rocks one a lot, but I agree that the fortune cookie would probably work out best.

Fortune cookie definately.

The announcement could backfire at her saying "No" to you and the class/school laughing at your sudden rejection. Or, her being pressured to say "Yes". Don't put a girl on the spot like that.

For the rocks, again, I wouldn't advise it as Twinkle said, she may not see the note and it is a bit cocky and slightly immature (Even though it is funny).

The fortune cookie is SOOOOO CUTE!!! I don't think it matters how unique the idea is, or isn't.

If it were me, I'd laugh alittle at the rocks, but maybe still say yes [if I liked the person asking], be terribly humiliated by the announcement, and fall utterly in love with the guy behind the fortune cookie :P
