You can't like, own the moon man. </Otto>

No, I wouldn't. If I'm going to die way before I can ever go and spend summers there, then I see no point. Perhaps if the moon were inhabitable and I were alive, I'd get a timeshare. That's about it.

No. Who'd want to own land on a big rock floating in the sky?

If I had that much money I'd buy lots of nice land away from civilization and live there all by myself with lots and lots of cats :)

Why? It's only cheese.

Thu May 24, 2007 12:43 am

:P Sounds like you heard about the guy doing this too.

I wouldn't buy for myself. I would buy this as a gag gift for someone else if I was serious about doing so.

No. Sounds boring.

No.

If I had that much money, I'd build the glide-mech: a giant robot suit which runs off of heat in the atmosphere, that can glide.

Glide-mech, why does the expense to make you taunt me so?

I think I would. Just like a square foot or something.
Then I'd go up on my little square foot of land and start singing. "We're whalers on the moon, we carry a harpoon..."
But I claimed the moon when I was little, so that may be part of my desire.

You went there and planted a flag?
Cos if we're going that way I claim all matter, energy, liquid, gas and there anti equivelant.
Oh, and Quantum energy.

I think that pretty much covers everything..

Snide cynicism aside (I of course Jest) Only if there was actually anything worth it there, as it stands it's looking like a big ball of sod all.

Maybe. I reckon that if there was any way to send humans up there to live, if you bought land for next to nothing now, you'd be a very rich person in the future, or possibly your grandkids would. But there's no guarantee of that ever happening so it's hardly a failsafe investment

Might be a cool ice breaker though.

"So... what do you do?"
"I'm a landowner."
"Wow, whereabouts?"
"ON THE MOON!"

We could have done it some time ago, albeit with a dodgy life expectancy of course (Food would be limited, any major solar storm would cause severe damage, etcetera) but with recent technological advances it's looking like we might get over our fear and actually do something about space, instead of wistful pipe dreams.

Yes, NASA sent a little girl up into space to plant a flag on the moon. They had nothing better to do that day.
You know how little kids claim things.

Not really, I wasn't the social type.

Thu May 24, 2007 7:10 pm

It's not a social thing to do. It's that thing where kids go "IT'S MINE!" without regard for the actual owner.

Thu May 24, 2007 7:49 pm

Yes, I would.

Don't you think the aliens are like, 'If you could buy land on Earth, would you?' But they're hella-wise and crap. They'd all say 'Hell no! Global warming is driving the value down, doofus.'
