Would you live near an Airport?

Thu Aug 02, 2007 3:36 pm

So, yeah; I came up with this question after looking at a picture (see picture below). Would you or would you not live near an Airport? Would you enjoy the rumbling of planes nearby, or would you hate it? I should also mention, that by airport I mean : an international airport. So, would you like to be neighbors with an international airport? By the way, here's that picture, I was talking about.

Yes, that is an Iran Air Boeing 747, getting ready to land at Heathrow. Although it may also be an opitcal trick, it still is sorta scary. :P

I would not. I live fairly close to an small airport already, so there's mostly smaller planes there, but they can be quite annoying, especially when they start practicing for the air show every year.

I live 15 minutes away from the only international airport in my country. Although I can always see planes from my window, its never too close, or loud.

I've never lived near an international airport, so I couldn't say.

I've had to stay at hotels next to airports before, and the sound of the planes keeps me up all night. I think if I can't stand one night in a hotel listening to the planes, I definitely wouldn't be able to live next to an airport year round.

I should point out that living near an international airport is use full if you fly alot - like my family. My dad who lives in New York visits a few times each year. I fly to NY about every year. My little brother is flying to England in 2 days.
It makes it a lot easier to drive there then pay for a cab, or have to worry about how to get home.

I spent my childhood next to Long Beach Airport, and most of the rest of my life next to McClellan Air Force Base. The commuter planes, C-130s, A-10s, and helicopters flying in and out all day and night never bugged me, so I don't really mind airplanes flying overhead non-stop.

I live close enough to an airport that I hear planes a lot overhead, and once a plane was so close we could read the words on it. Sometimes it's irritating when I hear them in the morning. I've also seen a nearby airport at night. It has so many lights shining all over the place that it's bright as day. And I've never flown anywhere before. So no, I wouldn't live near an airport.

Do have an airport sort of close to where I live, but it's not too close.
Far away enough to keep people from complaining about loud noises or safety issues. :P

Wouldn't want to live any closer though.
Airplanes are serious business.

1: I am scared to death of flying.
2: I already live by a hospital...the sirens are anyoing but you get used to them.
& 3: airports are always expanding and if your property isnt a grandfather clause protected house...then they have the right to mow it down and create a new runway.

I'll take my chances w. the hospital.

I doubt anyone on PPT lives closer to an airport than I do. I live at the corner of Midway International Airport. This means I'm under the approach and takeoff paths of two out of five runways.

I don't mind it one bit. In fact, I've adjusted entirely. Now I find it to be too quiet everywhere else.

I used to live right under the flight path of Eastleigh Airport (Not Southampton Parkway! You hear me Hampshire county council >.<) so I'm used to it.
Course then we moved, no airport and I get chronic insomnia, so maybe Airplanes helps me sleep (Tanks helped my sister so..)

That's exactly what happens when I sleep at another place!

When I was little we lived right by train tracks (back in the late 80's when trains ran alot more than they do now). It took forever for me to sleep w.o hearing one. Then when I went to my 2nd Uni I was back in a popular train city and it was wonderful! But now that I'm away from that town, I miss the trains alot.

(I've also loved trains themselves since I was a kid. Luckily I live right by the museum of transport!)
