Anything and everything goes in here... within reason.

So, I don't know if anyone here is familiar with Anthony Bourdain (chef, writer, host of Travel Channel's "No Reservations,"), but I'm a huge huge huge fan. He's one of my heroes, really (I want to be a food anthropologist, heh).
Anyways, thru my equally fannish friend I found out he was doing a talk in the next town over from mine. Unfortunately, the tickets were already sold out. Did we let that stop us? Of course not. So we show up, a guy has an extra ticket, and the box office has one that wasn't picked up. Score! We manage to snag decent seats in the theater just in time. Awesome talk, very funny, picked on Rachael Ray (who is from this area).
What we weren't expecting was the "reception" after the talk. We wandered around these food tables, and somehow ended up in some line...turns out it was the booksigning line (!), and we were about 4 people from the beginning. We had stood there maybe 10 minutes when he comes over. We were NOT expecting this, lol. Luckily, we had both grabbed a copy of his book and managed to get them signed and have a picture taken.
I would just like to say...holy crap. I met one of my idols last night.

Congratulations on meeting your idol!
Most, if not all, of my idols are either dead, thousands of miles away, or impossible to contact

Good job on meeting your idol! I personally don't agree with having idols as such, but maybe that's just me being
weird me again.

you are so amazing lucky! I worship the ground anthony bourdain walks on. I have all his books and am addicted to his show. I'm in culinary school right now (year & 1/2 left, woo!) and I would give anything for just 5 minutes in the kitchen with him!
And I am actually going into food anthropology. I have half a history degree right now (long story). As soon as my culinary degree is done I'm going back to school (yes, again) to finish my history degree and nab an associates in anthropology. Basically, I'm going to be in school until I'm 30 lol.

Well, when I say idol, I don't mean in the literal sense. I just look up to this guy IMMENSELY.
That's probably a better way of putting it.
And MarchingDuck, I'll probably be in school until I'm 30 too, hehehe.

That is awesome.
I love watching Anthony Bourdain. He's funny.
I would never be that lucky. XD

Congratulations on how everything just fell into your lap (which Anthony Bourdain pretty much did!) That is some extraordinary good luck.

I'm still trying to figure out what he was doing in Troy, NY, lol!
There is a picture, but I haven't been able to get a hold of my friend to get it yet. Ah well. Just goes to show...if you don't think something will happen, give it a try anyways. This has worked twice for me now, and I have *horrible* luck usually.

Wow cool!
My husband loves his show on Travel channel (now on Food network too apparently). I got him one of Anthony's books, I think it was "the nasty bits" or something similar to that.

Hey, I like that guy too. Sometimes when nothing else good is on TV, I watch the Food Network. Well, sometimes actually there are other things on, but then I just love the Food Network. I love to watch just about all of it.
Good for you for getting tickets and getting a book signed.
Did YOU get to eat anything interesting while you were there?
