Someone told me that most people in the west do not own a computer at home and have to go to libraries and cafes to use one. I was surprised when I heard this because I thought that countries like USA and UK were able to supply their population with personal computers. So I am doing this to find out the truth.
Hmmm. Let me see how many computers I have at home, including disused ones. I have 3 laptops in my house, 2 of which are in working condition. What about you guys? Do you have a computer at home?

I can guarantee you that the USA does not supply the population with personal computers. If you want one, you hafta go out and buy it on your own.
In fact, there are a large number of people who do not have computers still. At least in my area, we have a program (run by a charity-type group) where people can donate their old machines to a group that rebuilds the OS and then provides the machine to a family that is unable to afford a computer.

To quote a friend (and this would apply to most of this statement): 'No. Just no. This just wrong.' Yeah. He was doing his impression of Pauli at the time.
There are very few I know that don't have a computer here in the 'West' but once you reach college, you should have at least a laptop.

Heh, yes. I have a computer in my -room-.
I'm pretty sure I have a friend who doesn't, though. Or maybe it's just not connected to the internet?

Yes actually we here in Scandinavia get a free laptop the minute we are born. Girls usually get a PC, boys a Mac (dunno why). And last year, when Scandiputer Direct Supply turned 10 years, all newborns got a free copy of Photoshop CS3! It was so cool.
But I thought this was practiced globally
You poor people.

Yes, I have my very own computer I bought in 2006. Wow, that seems so long ago when I put the year. I'll probs buy a replacement next year (2009), it's dying a little bit (it went through 4 powercuts in one night
)

3.3ghz dual core, 2 gigs of ram, and 2TB of hard drive. Graphics card needed upgrading though.
That's the main computer, then there's another one I use, an old one, an older one used by one brother, another brothers laptop, and an ancient one.

Yes. My computer is better than all of yours!
There, that should stop the boasting.

Only way mine could be better would be to slave another Graphics card to it.
And have taken that Terrabyte Hard Drive, not that I really need it.

I only know one person who doesn't own a computer, and she lives by herself. However, I only really know people my age, so I have no idea the ratio of households with computers to those without.
In my house, there are three computers (one is an old iMac which still works! - we just don't use it often) and one MacBook (which I own - brand new!) Excessive much?
