Anything and everything goes in here... within reason.

I don't know how I got it, or where this should go. I'm thinking maybe the computer help sticky, but it all looked a bit complicated in there./
Basiccaly, I ran a free virus scanner and my computer is horribly infected with the Trojan virus. How can I get rid of it? It's doing horrible things to my computer

Well you mite want to sever your internet connection, because trojans report back to there masters about info on your computer and all...and I guess you'll have to remove them with an ati-virus software or re-format.

If you have to re-format, I suggest doing a zerofill on your HDD. It's basically the same as reformatting, but it fills your HDD with zeroes (since the info is stored using binary). I've done a zerofill before, and it fixed a lot of problems.

Exactly which free virus scanner is that?

What kind of trojan? There's more than one.
Yes, you should remove it as soon as you can. Also think of any ways you might have gotten it (like past downloads) so you won't get it again.

If its a rather obscure one, or one you got from a pop-up, that'd be a odd, but intelligent way to get a horse in. What OS and browser were you running?

Try running ad-aware and running your virus scanner. that should tackle it.
Tue Jul 27, 2004 10:48 pm
ad-aware wouldn't work most probably.
norton can clean trojans. also there is a program called trojan cleaner but i didn't use it.
probably typing trojan cleaner in google would work.

Well start the computer in safe mode, ad aware, virus scan, delete cookies, Temp, temp internet, and check MSconfig for anything that shouldn't be there.
You can also risk going on the net and finding a specific cure for the trojan.

It'd be a little more helpful if you could say what trojan it is.. then we could give specific instructions.. (sorry if i sound rude)

I would tell you what type of trojan if I could remember, and the the virus scan took about an hour to do. There were loads of different types though, the box was all filled up with different virus (virusi?)
Basically, my Dad will kill me if I tell him this, last time I was home from Uni I downloaded a virus that wiped his entire harddrive. I need to get rid of it quickly and FREE.
IS this even possible?!

I believe the word is virii.

It wasn't that useless, i myself was curious as to what the plural of 'virus' was.
If you messed up the computer before, then why didn't you family go and buy a virus scanner to keep it from happening again?
