Tonsilitus, No scratch that, its glandular fever

Wed Aug 04, 2004 8:44 am

Ugh.... Tonsilitus!

Its so ucky... an advice to all of you, stay away from people with tonsilitus just in case you catch it. I've had to sit at home and watch all the LOTR all week ;)

I always thought ice-cream was meant to help but it just hurts to swallow it. I'm living off bannana milkshakes :D

Edit : Poop! I went to the doctors because I hadn't gotten any better on sunday, and I had a blood test this morning and it turns out I have glandular fever which can take AGES to get better with  Its not so bad, i just generally feel tired and stuff but its still very annoying.

Taking penicillin?

When I was little and got tonsillitis, I got better rather quickly after taking a drink with crushed penicillin and puking it back up again.

O.o

add honey to the banana milkshakes. mum used to put it in them for me when i was younger, but she suddenly forgot she did when i was old enough to make them myself....

i love banana milkshakes!! i wish i had a blender i'd have one now :)

Never had it myself but as you can see its supposed to be increadibly unpleasant, in all reality there are few things that can be done for it. Will they get removed?

I remember getting Tonsilitus as a child.. horrible memories.. :(

Good luck with the best of recoveries! :D

Those LOTR movies should keep you more than busy. ;)

Is tonilitis actually contagious? I suppose it just depends on if it's viral or bacterial.

I get it all the time. The irony lies in the fact that my throat is sore and swollen, and the pills to fix it are huge and hard to swallow.

You mean people who get it now aren't immediately dragged kicking and screaming to the hospital to have their tonsils removed?

I have some pretty vivid memories of running around and around the hospital room (I was maybe four) and screaming and trying to get away from the nurse with the needle. They had to call in three or four huge orderlies to strap me down to the bed so they could jab me with it and start the process of putting me under for surgery.

But I'm fine now. ::twitch::

I've never had tonsillitis before.
I am one of the few people I know who still has their tonsils. I'm surprised they weren't ripped out of my throat upon birth, though. I think I had strep throat at least three times a year until I was 16.

Ugh... I catch that about 3-4 times a year.
Doesn't really bother me that much anymore though, hope you get better soon!

EVIL

Anyhoo, I haven't actually thrown up yet and i've had an assortment of painkillers and antiobiotics :/ I'm probs gunna be off next week so I miss this REALLY cool excursion and we get to try those helicopter saftey trainging things where you get thrown upside down and dunked into a pool :D

hehe

And they don't pull them out because more people were dying from botched surgery than they were from the actual tonsilitus :) Reasonable Logic i'd guess

They still remove tonsils. The procedure isn't performed as often as it was before, though.
