Anything and everything goes in here... within reason.

I'm pulling my first all nighter tonight (I have midterms tomorrow and I'm gonna fail them if I don't do this. o_o) and was wondering if anyone had any study tips for me since I've never really been a person that's big on studying (IE I don't know HOW to study!)
Thanks guys!

Make sure if you're determined to stay up, to drink lots of caffeine.
Aside from that, if you feel like you're losing concentration, take a break, or change subjects.
Don't study for hours on the same thing. Do it in small batches - I find that a more effective way of remembering. Try and remember what the teachers mentioned are the most important, and get that down first.

Studying the night before I never found much use, I prefer to get a good nights sleep and avoid the caffeine the night before so I can be in the right condition for the exam. Nonetheless, if you really need to do this...
Like Alex said, you can only absorb information for short periods of time, I'd recommend about 20 minutes of work and then take a short break just remember not to take too long.
Other than that, if you think you're going to have trouble remembering things either a) write them over and over again b) think of fun ways you can remember them (remember "My very earthly mother just said you naughty puppy" for the order of the planets?) or c) if they're things that can be applied think how they would do so in the context of life and business and whatever else.
Studying and revising is more about discipline than anything else.
Other than that, good luck and best wishes
(Make sure you eat well too!)

Oh yeah, can't believe I forgot that one!
Make sure you eat lots. Even if you're not hungry, just snack on some food that's known for energy - it's a lot better on your body in the long run.

Studies show that we tend to retain information well when we absorb it right before sleeping. It's kind of weird because I would think that's the first to go when we start dreaming and purging our mind during sleep. I wouldn't stay up all night. You can stay up late, but make sure you get some sleep or you'll just burn out when you come to the test, you'll probably blank out and not be able to focus.
When studying:
Even if it seems weird you should read your notes to yourself out loud. You are more likely to remember what you've read if you've read it out loud to yourself. Some find that reading notes outloud while re-writing them helps them stick as well. I think repetition is key.
Helps if you have a study friend to quiz you while you study.
Alternate subjects, study 30 minutes of one subject then move to a different topic. We tend to stop absorbing information after focusing on it for a long period of time...if you are studying the same thing over and over for too long you are going to stop paying attention, so mix it up.
Breaks are good as well, eat something healthy and not too sugary.
When possible, say you are trying to remember terms...find everyday things that will help you remind you of the defenitions, or create a song, anything that will trigger your memory when you are testing. When we associate new things with regular everyday items that we know about, we are able to recollect them easily.
If you are learning defenitions, put them in your own words, sumarize their meanings.

Wow, that sounds fantastic! Stay up really late working before a big test. I would agree that there is nothing that would improve your performance more than being absolutely knackered.
Perhaps in future you could, maybe, actually do some work beforehand instead of doing something that could well hamper your performance in a big test even more.
Take note of the study techniques given and follow them in future and do them WELL BEFORE your test.

I think you know you shouldn't be studying late at night, but sometimes, that doesn't stop it from happening.
As Alex said, consume lots of caffeine. Take periodic break as well. If you're writing a paper, I find listening to music tends to keep me awake. Once you get to the point where you just don't think you can do it anymore, it means you can't. By that time, get some sleep.

Hey, THANKS FOR THE SARCASM! It gives me the special warm fuzzies inside, especially concidering you don't know the situation surrounding the reason why I stayed up to do it! *thumbs up* You're A+ in my book!
To everyone else, thanks for the tips guys. I went and took the test and got an A on it. I ended up taking the questions in the back of each chapter, writing them down on paper, and then looking up the answers, and then writing them down on paper too. So not only had I memorized what the questions were about, but in looking up the answers I had read the chapter (Something which I have problems doing) When I got home I passed out due to relief.
It's the first A I've gotten in a very very long time.

I love you too, but someone hating me on the internet ranks at 5 billion on my list of important things.
<genuinely sincere>Congratulations on your A, I wish you many more in the future

She didn't ask to be criticised. She asked for helpful hints, if you don't have anything nice to say, than don't type it.

Little bit too late for that, Sunshine.
