Bram Stoker's story of Dracula was based on Vlad Tepes {aka Vlad the Impaler, Dracul, or Dracula}. It's quite easy to find information about him.

I've read of a rare disorder which causes a person to fear sunlight and garlic, and also be very pale, thus giving rise to the legend of vampires. Is that the kind of thing you are looking for?

Dracula is based of Vladimir The Impaler, a slightly tyrannical ruler that enjoyed putting the peasants heads on poles and displaying them.

He loved impaling them more than displaying their heads. He had a large table built in front of his "giant spikes" so he could dine outside while watching the impalements.

That site has a lot of information about 'unknown' creatures.
Bigfoot, Loch Ness... and others.
Go to the "cryptids" link.
The news and stuff is neat. *nods*

Oh my goodness! Kristy! It's you!!!!!! The Dracula thing has been pointed out several times, so I won't add further to that one. I think I read about a disease that was probably the derivitive (Lord knows I can't spell!) for the myths about werewolves. Or was that the vampirism thing? They say Bloody Mary was a real person, daughter of king henry the 8th, who killed countless protestants with her rigid catholic rule. I also read somewhere that sailors in the past thought that manitees were mermaids. They have mermaid-like tails and underwater they would look quite a bit like a human.

There are quite a few bigfoot movies. The one Fallen was referring to was one of the most famous, though.
