I guess all the legends of little people are true.

Actually, I heard that on the news yesterday. I was like, "What? They nick-named them Hobbits? Maybe Tolkein knows something we don't..." *shifty eyes*

Personally I think these things were more ape like than human like. They may have used stone tools, because some were found with the bones. The lived in caves and the natives on the island have legends about the people. In the legends it was said that they would eat anything and would even eat a human baby if they could get one. One of these things matched up with a full grown human man, probably wouldn't hurt the man. But they could hurt a baby. A group of them might could hurt one man. So I figure all the legends we have of ugly goblins living in caves were about these things. They probably weren't very pretty to look at.

Wow, that's really interesting! I wonder why they all of a sudden stopped, or when they started being our size. Very cool, thanks for the article.. :)

I saw this awhile ago... it's been in the news for more then a few days.
Very interesting. I enjoy how they're hobbits (tolkien must be rolling in his grave).

Tra la la... how I do love evolution.

ohh hobbits... Where's Mr. Frodo?

Ummm...I don't believe it?

Can someone give me a short review of this whole article? I didn't read it all.

It might be a good idea to put a warning about the ape dude picture, by the way. I didn't like seeing that.

Scientists have found skeletons of a hobbit-like species of human that grew no larger than a three-year-old modern child (See pictures). The tiny humans, who had skulls about the size of grapefruits, lived with pygmy elephants and Komodo dragons on a remote island in Indonesia 18,000 years ago.

Perhaps you should read the whole article Medli, it's nothing offensive. The picture (in my belief) was done from a scientific standpoint, no worse then what you'd actually see in the National geographic magazines, or Tv programs. Not to mention what you are most likely to see in a simple school textbook.

I think 'little people' though now proven to be closer to our own timeline are unlikely to have exerted any influence on currenty myths and legend such as the 'goblins' somone mentioned.

I'm sure they could have knicked off with cave babies though.

I already read the little section you posted, but thanks anyway Run-run. :P

I suppose so. Still got me off guard though.

I'm kind of curious as to what this is about..so I may read more later or tomorrow.

In all honesty.. I just cannot keep my attention on something that long. :P

I'll try again..

EDIT: I read more. I can buy into there being other human like things, but I'm not catching everything they throw.

Oh wow. That is awesome, it reminds me of that legend... or whatever it was, about that little tiny mummy. **thinks**

I loves National Geographic. I'm such a geek, I love how people are afraid to throw those things out, so it's always easy to get old issues either free or very cheap. They're interesting to read, and the photos always come in handy for things like collages.

Before I go way off track...

I saw some sign of that at the York Fair. o_O

EDIT: Or was it someone with a big head, mummified? Oh well..
