I wouldn't suggest doing that... it can really damage your eardrums. I think.

Just because Dopey can do it on Snow White and the Seven Dwarves doesn't mean its safe to do... he is a cartoon after all. ;)

Really? I do it all the time when I go swimming or go on an airplane. I learned it about 3 years ago, when I complained about the pressure in my ears while the plane was going down, a flight attendant told me to do that and I did it for airplanes ever since!

I don't know that for sure, but it hurts me so it might be bad... of course, I may have heard that if you do it too hard your eardrum can pop out or something... I dunno. Meh.

What I usually do for pressure type problems is yawn... it pushes out all the air in your ears or something... maybe it'll work for water, too?

Squeeze your nose and shut your mouth and try to breathe out. Works for me.

Or, I always (after a Swimming lesson at my school) sit in Physics, shaking my head back and forth. When the water does come out (and it does, trust me... after a while) I either spray my Physics teacher or my friends. ^.^

I've always pinched my nose etc... That's also what the air steward told me to do on a flight because my ears popped.

Don't let it get to the point where it gets infected. Most. Painful. Thing. Ever. Just go the doctors, especially if it's a reoccuring problem.

It's a recurring problem, and recurring swimmer's ear can cause lots of problems, including deafness (though this is quite rare). The pain you're feeling is your body's way of telling you that something's screwed up.

I suggest taking an anti-inflammatory today (Aleve comes to mind) and seeing the doctor tomorrow. In a lot of cases, swimmer's ear is due to a narrow eustachian tube, which drains fluids from your middle ear into the pharynx, where it drains into your stomach and is eliminated. If the tube is too narrow, fluids build up, and all heck breaks loose in a very small space.

I plug one ear with my hand, and tilt my head so my other ear is facing the floor. Then I jump. Usually gets it sorted.

Most definatly agree. Worked as a camp councilor/swimming instructor over the summer- in a lake all day everyday. By the last week I had a massive double inner/outer ear infection, all because water had stayed in my ears too long.

That said... Rubbing alcohol seems to work for me. Or try and get some swimmers ear drops from a pharmacy.

If you have a paperclip, you could try and dig it out...

Or you can try one of these more fictionous methods:
- Use a matchstick. Light it. Stick it up your ear. Run in circles screaming.
- Shake your head really fast. Stop if you fall unconcious.
- Put a vacuum cleaner hose thing up on your ear(WARNING. DO NOT ATTEMPT. THIS IS DANGEROUS)
- Eat a cat.
- Pour Draino down your ear! DRAINO UNCLOGS THE TOUGHEST OF DRAINS!

Dude... NOT a good idea. :P But Dawn... I do think you should try cat, they're delicious! :D

You could also just suck it up. :P
